New bits for my A2

Whilst Paul has front fogs fitted, there is no wiring to them. Therefore, even with the correct switch, the front fogs still won't work.

It was Andrew (ajsellors) from whom the switch was bought, if I remember correctly. It's a switch without the extra control for front fogs.

Tom

Do you mean the front fogs ? My A2 has front fogs but they are only for cosmetic looks , they are not wired up. The rear fogs work fine just like my old unit .

Ok,thanks gentlemen.

It makes sense now, I didn't realise the fogs were just a cosmetic thing. The reason I asked was that I wanted to know what the job to connect them would've consisted of and of course I guess the switch would have that extra pull for the fogs though, right?

I will eventually get them wired up but again just for cosmetic reasons. Strange though that Audi didn't put front fogs as standard on the Sport models .

the German (and here) rules state "if it's on the car, it must work"; the front fogs give a second pull towards you.
The job isn't *that* complicated if you're prepared to take the arch liner out, which is in itself not an easy task, and pull a cable through. I'd probably suggest two hours for me / a knowledgeable A2 person with all tools to hand, a dry workspace, lift, and a premade loom. So that's a wheel brace, Tx25 and 10mm head with extensions :D

Hi,

wiring fog lights involves running wires from the blue connector (pin 4) behind the lower A pillar trim in the passenger footwell and the lights themselves. The lightswitch connector is already wired up for the front fog lights across to the passenger side, even on cars which don't have fog lights fitted in the factory.

I made up a loom with two pairs of wire which I ran to each fog light. For simplicity I used the earth point next to the connector in the car rather than one in the engine bay so all the wires started and finished together.

The hardest thing is getting the wire into the engine bay from inside the car. There is a cable entry point in the bulkhead behind the cooling system expansion tank. The inside of this can be accessed under the foam sound insulation at the front of the footwell. I used a stiff wire to go from in engine bay into the car and then pull the new loom through.

Once in the engine bay, I piggy backed on the side of the existing loom over the wheel arch and then down the side of the radiator to the bottom where the two pairs divert to go to each light on each side. When running across the bottom of the bumper, the wires must be protected as there are shape plastic edges which could cut through the insulation.

The picture shows the cable entry from the engine bay side.

it will fail the MOT if they are not connected , but I have kept the original covers so I can change over the covers when the MOT is due :)

Agreed, also baffles me that they call it a special edition and don't have the fogs (some I've seen) and many other things. Terrible:confused:,

I've not myself had any MOT trouble the last four years since the time front fogs were installed [for cosmetics only]. I don't think there's actually any 'tick-box' MOT requirement for them to be checked as working.

I think the only problem that could occur is that, if ever driving in fog with the fog lights not switched on, the police could (technically) pull you up for not correctly using lights that are fitted.

But anyone, please correct me if I'm mistaken.

I am pretty sure the MOT guidelines have changed recently , which include checking of all lights including fog lights , front and rear . I might be wrong .
