Nightmare of getting German Environmental Permit

I can always fall back on the my good old (robust) Lupo (genuine) 3L's. My wife's 1999 Fahrzeugbrief shows D4 and 55.

Presumably the three German A2 3L's are in fact 3.2L's? Yes, perhaps I should visit in the A2 while I can!

The numbers on the CoC relate to THIS vehicle only and because of the weight of some 1.2s, the relation mass / emissions is not OK for EU4. It is, however, OK for D4 and it's D4 that's important for the green sticker. The tax code on the back page of the CoC (nr. 47) should say 55 rather than 46. It may not be on there.

There is, to my knowledge - and expressed many times in the thread on the German forum - no ability on the part of Audi to re-classify the 1.2. http://www.a2-freun.de/forum/showpost.php?p=682668&postcount=165

Bottom line: please tread carefully. Someone is sticking their neck out on this, where lots of testers are refusing point-blank. The alternative will be for everyone to spend €1000 fitting DPFs.

Bret

It's not a question of re-classification; the CoC is just plain incorrect. In Nr 47 my A2 CoC states 46 (for Euro 3, 3L). The same document gives the Euro 3 emission values which are all below the Euro 4 limits. Therefore the car is D4 as are all 1.2's and Nr 47 should be 55 (Euro 3, D4, 3L). Herr Kestel is simply doing his job and correcting Audi's error. Competent and efficient companies sack people who don't do their jobs. TUV is obviously not in this category.

There's also nothing to be gained by fitting a DPF to a 1.2 unless for altruistic reasons or you have money to burn. A DPF won't help a 1.2 reach the Euro 4 limits because it already does. It also won't reach the Euro 5 limits because the NOx limit is too low and a DPF won't help.

I feel a very persuasive email coming. Anybody know Audi's MD's email? Germany not UK. Leave the monkeys, go for the organ grinder.

For this reason, I'm also interested to see what the Berlin guys issue RAB with, because the numbers on the CoC say green.

Bret

It is interesting now! You've guessed correctly - YELLOW.

I have tried to contact TUV Bamberg by e-mail (in German) but no reply. I will also contact Berlin again.

Just had an MOT today. Not too sure how to interpret the emissions printout but I was wondering how my actual emissions compared to the green / yellow requirements:

Measure n. ( 1)
Opacity (1/m) 0.88#

Average K: 0.88 (1/m)
Drift: +0.00 (1/m)
Test Limit: 3.00 (1/m)
Fast pass lim: 1.50 (1/m)

Test type: Category A turbo

The UK MOT only measures smoke on a diesel. For a petrol the MOT values are in volumetric terms, either % or vpm. The values you require are on your certificate of conformity and are in g/km. You can obtain a CoC from here:

https://coc.volkswagen-logistics.de/jctvwtp/portal/vw/vwt/

The first issued for your vehicle is free.

To obtain a green plakette for a diesel the vehicle has to meet the D4 standard, which is compliance with the Euro 4 standard using the Euro 3 test procedure, or Euro 4. Limits are here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_emission_standards

All the values on your CoC must be below each limit. The value that determines which colour plakette you receive depends on the key (Schlüssel) in section 47, see pdf. In the case of the A2 1.2Tdi there is a conflict between the category that the emission values suggest you are in (D4) and the value in section 47. Although most if not all 1.2Tdi's meet the D4 standard, the key in section 47 is 46 (for Euro 3, 3L) when it should be 55 (Euro 3 + D4, 3L).

probably green.

@nuttinnew: ask on the German forum, you might well find someone willing to pick one up / get one delivered for you... you won't need them until you get off the autobahn and into town centres.

Thanks, I ordered one on line and it came yellow...... having said that i drove into central Essen and didn't have any problems.
