Open Sky - Disaster Strikes

My Open Sky is a unit previously refurbished by A2 Cars, and has worked without issue for the last five or six years - cleaned and re-greased once a year, and always opened regularly whenever the car’s being used.

Yesterday I opened the roof to the first position and there was a loud clunk; I closed it again and then went to open it fully, to hear the dreaded noise of the gears slipping and the left hand side of the roof not moving. After a lot of messing around (it has obviously jumped several teeth and when the motor stopped turning, the roof was still open), I got it shut manually. I tried to reset by holding the close button, but that also led to the jumping gear noise.

Where should I start looking to diagnose?

Until recently @Kleynie was offering a repair service and many A2 owners used it and were very positive. But he has now finished his second engineering degree and secured a good full time job, so is unable to offer the service any more. But he hopes to sell the tools and stock of parts to someone that can continue the service.

Thanks, I’ll have to wait until next week to have a look. Don’t much want to take the roof off again…
