8 hours 10 minutes door to door this morning.. would have been a little longer but bloody Gloucester Services have cut down their opening hours overnight so instead of being able to get a much needed breakfast there at 6am had to get a cold bhaji in the service station and then get on the road again. Didn't want to spend a fiver on a bacon roll in the services. Really irritating - have stopped there regularly around 6am for years on the way down particularly when there were nappy changes and child clothing changes needed, but first noticed that (the already premium) prices had gone up 2-3 years back, and worse they had become very aggressively portion-controlled on the cheap carb part of breakfasts certainly 2 years ago (in contrast to Tebay who still give you a decent dollop of haggis or bubble and squeak on the plate) the past couple of years and since last winter the opening hours of the main building at Gloucester seem to have become more restricted, particularly outside summer season. For families with kids, only being able to change them in the Gloucester (south) service station (however nice the architecture is compared to Franklin and Michaelwood on the M5) - the toilets are just as bad as mainstream services - ie. a disgrace and the product is nowhere near the standard of the main buildings on the same site when they opened a few years ago.Nice one Robin - your old girl is still handling the mega-trip from north to very south-west ok then?
