Good work Steve; a significant outcome for members wanting to own this now rare accessory. Good luck with the spoiler trial and with the rest of the body kit; an item I may even be tempted with myself in the future.

Cheers,

Darren

That's great news steve, look forward to seeing the finished article and getting one on my Storm!
Out of curiosity and not necessarily a silly question but, would you recommend this be sprayed off the car before installing?
Cheers Jeff

Yes, that is a genuine option and it will save a lot of masking. I would recommend that option.

Hi,

Well.................................

The new spoiler arrived and was it as good as I had hoped??

No,

It was BETTER, MUCH better!

I have asked for one slight change, nothing vital, but I think it would be better if the main spoiler area was filled with foam. It is not essential but it will ensure that it retains its shape better.

One thing to note, there are no holes in the side pieces, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, and perhaps most importantly because these spoilers should not be an identical copy. But we should not have any copyright problems. I have sent several emails to the various VAG/Votex companies informing them of my intentions some time ago and as I say it is not absolutely identical (there are no holes, and the "stamped in" makers plate under the rear lip is filled and smoothed out)
Secondly, some people have asked if these holes can be left out because they prefer it that way (and I can see that point of view).
Thirdly it keeps the cost down by reducing the complexity of the build.
Finally you can always drill the holes yourself if you want them.

Have a look at them side by side in the pictures below.

I did a trial fit on my wife's 90 and it fitted PERFECTLY, as good a fit as the original, if not better. In fact it held fast when tapped into place and had the same clearance with the tailgate glass as the original.

I am so pleased with the quality.

Here are the pictures.

Even the inside corners have all of the detail (necessary to ensure that it can be mounted over the original A2 spoiler.

I will (very shortly) be posting a new thread with details of how to order them.
We can make 4 or 5 a week and they will be sold on a first come first served basis, so be quick, but we will fulfil as many member's orders as we can (including from the German owners club if any members there want them, but their TUV process might cause them problems)
ONLY ORDERS PLACED ON THAT NEW THREAD WILL COUNT (so that everything is visible and above board)[h=1]Rear Spoiler "Similar" to Votex rear spoiler Now available[/h]
So please don't try and jump the queue via PM. The order book will only be open for a few weeks to allow members to place there order, after that the price will go up slightly (we are not quite covering costs at the special price)
More details on the new thread, but one thing I am pleased about is that if you state your colour code you can have them painted for a small extra cost (again to cover the costs)

I really don't like it Steve....

... because being an FSI owner I can't have one. :p

In all seriousness, great work; almost impossible to tell them apart aside of the holes in the sides. Best compliment I can give.

I voted for a kit without the rear spoiler but your pics changed my mind. I want a kit WITH the rear spoiler! :)

I am glad that you like them, I was expecting a quality product (knowing what the guy does for a living!) but these exceeded my expectations by a long way. The intricate shapes of the spoiler make it a difficult thing to mould.

Can I suggest that you order the spoiler when you are ready rather than waiting until the full kit is ready (but it is entirely up to you)

If you were able to do the drive to South Wales I know someone who is breaking a Cobalt Blue A2 who would give you the tailgate for free so you COULD fit a Votex spoiler!!

That is a very generous and tempting offer Steve; I hadn't even mulled that solution over.

I am guessing the extra depth of the FSI and 1.2 TDI spoiler is merely for improved aerodynamics and fuel efficiency?

I will sleep on it mate. Many thanks and most appreciated; thank you.

Where is that new thread then? Come on, come on,

Well done so far Steve!!

Is there a new thread for this?

Cheers,

Hi Hedge,

Unfortunately the quality of the rear spoiler was not as good as I wanted, they were fine but needed finishing to get them perfect.

I located another producer but they wanted £500 to produce each one from the mould.
I am having some work done on the quality of the mould then I will be trying another producer.

But the main Votex Bodykit is proving to be almost impossible to reproduce, especially the side skirts.

I can't see me being able to produce the body kit in the foreseeable future, but I may be able to get some rear spoilers done at a sensible cost, but it will take a bit of time.

Ok, thanks Steve. Think I'll give up on the idea of ever getting the kit now then.

Cheers,

Don't give up, they do come up for sale from time to time, A2Steve occasionally gets a kit or two.

However rare ANY part is for the A2 you can be sure that they WILL appear from time to time, sometimes even for a sensible price (or a better than sensible price if Steve manages to get hold of one)

Have anyone ever tried to contact Votex Austria directly for a 2nd batch reproduction? Maybe A2OC DE could have pushed in their native language?

I spent months trying to get hold of them when I planned to make the reproductions, without luck and believe me I tried.

I am pretty sure that Votex as a company does not exist anymore. There is another company using that name but it is not them.

The point at which I lost the trail to Votex was when I found out that in 2007 Votex was restructured and renamed Volkswagen Zubehör GmbH.
