Yes, Emm left in a huff and took his ball with him!
So, for the benefit of all, I'll post the guide again, using an easy photoguide:
The pollen filter is located in the passenger footwell (UK cars) behind the glovebox. There is a trim cover (in the same colour as the rest of the internal trim) that hides a black plastic retainer, behind which is the filter element and holder.
You'll firstly need to take off the trim cover:
Then, when the cover is off, remove the black retainer by pulling the 2 clips to the middle and then wiggle it down and away.
Then, you can pull the element out - it sits in a fragile plastic frame and you'll have to tilt it as it drops to clear the carpet. Take note of the direction of airflow, as written on the side of the element and replace the new one in the same orientation.
Refitting is the reverse of removal - note that the black plastic retainer is a sod to get into the right position - it must go fully in and positively lock, otherwise the trim cover won't fit back in place!
