Pro Boost FSI remap

just reading bits of the thread I think this might be a good option for me as I cant be bothered with stripping out the EGR etc.... I would need it sorting very soon though as the MOT is nearly up and will fail with the EML for the EGR

There is unlikely to be another batch soon as it will be on an asa and when basis that I get enough ECU’s.

Currently have 2 waiting to be sent off, but won’t send a batch until I have 4.

I’ve had a response as follows from Pro Boost regarding the post cat lambda functionality.

I suppose in their defence, this is a remap they wrote many years ago and the remap for the FSI is such a small part of their business these days that it’s understandable that they no longer remember.

“ Hi Steve,

Unfortunately I can't tell you that anymore. Sorry.

I think this is active at all ECU´s, but i´m not sure.”

Thanks Steve. And thank you once again for your efforts with the Pro Boost service. I'm sorry some folks on here aren't able to express themselves as constructively as we might hope.

Just a little update for those waiting on the current batch. The delivery was received by Pro Boost on 21st December, I haven't heard back from them yet, but everyone is entitled to a Christmas Break even engineers :)

This should mean that the batch comes back to the UK the middle of January.

The Proboost units are now ready to head back to Britain (a bit later than planned).

Is there anyone in the EU currently who is heading back to the U.K. in the next couple of weeks?

How many are needing repatriation? End of month know some e flying over.

PSA / warning: The Febi Bilstein 31124 dogbone mount that I fitted at the end of August 2023 has just completely failed on my car. I was able to limp it home very carefully but still had a couple of horrible clanking moments. When I fitted the replacement I'd had the Pro Boost map for a fairly short period of time (maybe a month / 6 weeks) and the previous one was failing then (it had been on the car 6 years before I got the Pro Boost ECU).

I'm fairly confident in saying that the part is not able to handle the torques placed upon it by a car with the Pro Boost map. I have just ordered the 31113 mount which is designed for the torquier TDI engines. Hopefully it'll come quickly, as I can't drive anywhere until then.

The PSA is this: If you've fitted the Febi 31124 mount to your FSI and you have (or will have) a Pro Boost ECU, replace the mount with something stronger. I'll upload a photo of the 4 1/2 month old mount once I've replaced it.

Wonderful engine that the FSI is, (other opinions are available), torque is not, with the standard map anyway, much present below 2,500 rpm, peaking around 4,000 rpm...
Enough to break an engine mount? Seems unlikely.
Manufacturing defect perhaps?
Mac.

I don't think an OEM mount would have broken. I think the issue is that the Febi mount is weaker than OEM. Looking at the list of approved vehicles for it, the highest power is 77 KW (vs 81 for the FSI) so it's already probably below spec.

The reason this is a problem is because so many people (me included) have used the Febi mounts due to the high price of the OEM part and the difficulty of acquiring it. I think it's just about fine for a standard car, but there's no margin for a Pro Boost to be fitted. The Pro Boost noticeably improves low-down torque, which is exactly where the most damage would be done.

Hi Chris

The ProBoost map isn’t a performance map 🤔

It’s purely designed to overcome the poor running issues of the FSI.

It won’t take the car over the standard 109bhp

Horsepower isn't the issue, it's high loads at low RPMs that put the most stress on the mount. The engine produces noticeably more jerk (that is, rate of change of acceleration) at lower RPMs with the map.

Update on the mount: The bush hadn't failed in the mount. What had happened is that the bolt that holds the small end of the mount to the gearbox bracket had shaken totally loose - the mount was literally not connected to the engine. When I took off the undertray, the bolt just fell on the floor! Still, I fitted the TDI mount and it is back to normal behaviour. If anything, the beefier mount feels better.

Why the bolt shook loose I don't know. Could be my fault if I didn't tighten it properly (though I'm sure I did), could be the flimsier mount allowing too much movement, could be both.

Bit of each, probably.
Your HD version sounds like the best way to go. Is the diesel mount a direct fit, and easier to find?

Both are available on Amazon so easy either way. The diesel one (31113) is more expensive than the petrol (31124 - £44 vs £29) but it's much more substantial. The diesel one is a direct fit - the length and depth are the same. I did find that it would only fit in one way up for some reason, even though it should be the same either side, but that's no big deal. Just test it before swapping over the bracket.

The latest batch are back safe with me and on their way to their new homes. A very big thank you to @Stan2stan2 for all your help.

If anyone is considering having a ProBoost remap, I only need one more unit to be supplied to me in order to send the next batch off.

Please get in touch if you are intersted.
