Information real mpg with TDi: is 50-60 the real deal, or 70 mpg are as easy to achieve?

Hello I have owned my 75 tdi fir nearly a year and average over a mix of driving 63 mpg in the summer and 58 mpg in the winter , I don't drive it hard but I also don't drive for economy !

Real MPG >70

Hi SpaceTofu
In Jan.2009 I had a change of work location, needed a reliable and 'economic car' for a similar daily commute and, after much deliberation, bought a '02 regn. 75bhp 1.4 TDi SE with 69k on the clock. The car has been serviced annually by the local village garage. I always use quality oil (Mobil1) and branded regular (95ron!) fuel (Shell or BP). With 16" alloy wheels the ride is on the firm side; 15" steel wheels with higher profile rubber would be more forgiving on poor surfaces. In my experience, the best fuel economy is achieved at around 55mph - I travel at close to 60mph so, you could potentially better my figures; and, I do like to drive my car.
8 years on, I have 171k on the clock and have averaged 70.9mpg over the last year (70.2mpg during 2015).
In my opinion, this is an amazing car - even now and in many respects, and has been screwed together by a quality manufacturer. I have had no regrets at buying one.
But, the car is not to everyone's taste; your partner 'is not liking the A2 at all' - make sure she drives one first, she may change her mind! I'm still in love with mine (and still married).
Good luck...
