RetroFit Items

If you do fit fog lights, please only put them on WHEN ITS REALLY FOGGY, ie on average probably 3 or 4 times a year, thats all, and not just to try and look cool or to light up badgers at the side of the road, or you will REALLY ANNOY people coming the other way. Notice how I have shown disapproval BY WRITING IN CAPITALS, clever eh? In the six months I've had my A2 I've used them once.

If I do go ahead with the retro-fit, my intention on usage would be when visibility is below 50 metres or so and not as every day driving lamps.

Personally I think that the front fogs make the car look "sportier" and finish off the lower grill; so a fashion accessory in the "off" position only.

Yeah I dont want to use the lights - but I think they tidy up the front end somewhat from an appearance perspective.

With regards to wiring - isntt here also a point where wires could come through on the passenger side that is easier to access? I presume this is where it coesm through on LhD cars - and extend the wiring to go across the dash inside? Or is this just as much work?

For the few times that I actually used the fog lights, the visibility were very very low. However, I don't remember them helping much in those conditions though. My fog lights mostly illuminate the area between the immediate front of the car and the brightest part where the low beams starts. The rest of the light brighten up the floating mositure making the environment seem brighter but not actually much better to see. I do remember they give extra brightest to the side as mentioned by another member, but having philips +50% bulbs at the low beam is equally as good.

But I agree, they give a bit more detail to the lower jaw and make the car look a bit sportier!

Thanks for the feedback Humps!!

Hope you have managed to sort out that vibration issue.

Sometimes Darren, you do worry me... :) You can have mine if you fancy spending a day pulling the cars to bits

Sometimes Chris, I worry myself mate!! :D

When I start modding Di's 'A Class', then I will finally know that I have lost the plot!! ;)

When conditions reduce visibility to a high degree they are designed to light up the edge of the road in gthe near distance more to ensure you don't fall off it, not light-up the horizon like most people think.

For this reason, front fog lamps tend not to dazzle oncoming traffic unless you are coming over the top of a sharp hill, because the light is cast down significantly.

That fits my description of the fog lights exactly! However, it is in the highway code that 'fog lights must be switched off when visibility improves'.

Not got time to swap the front/back tyres and see, I really hope this is the source as that's the only thing changed after the dampers.

On the other hand, while on the subject of retro fit items. I think the door lights that eluminate the exit surroundings are pretty useful. Especially in a dark carpark or at outdoor where I can tell if I'm about to step straight into a puddle of water. I don't seem to remember the A2 having such option? May be a retro fit of the part from an A4/A6, should be too hard to attach a couple of wires to the +/- of the interior lighting circuit?
