Single-to double-DIN dash with Mk2 RNS-E conversion

I did the cutting of the RNS-E unit and shaping of the climate panel last and a great finish has been achieved, very difficult to tell from Audi standard - Dan's interior has now been elevated several notches.

I was very impressed with that vibrating sanding tool you had - if I had had attempted the cutting I don't think we'd have ended up with such a good fit and finish and it certainly would have taken a lot longer!

Well I have got the FISCON to work with my Galaxy S3, so now I can use the RNS-E as my telephone controller and browse my phonebook etc! Tomorrow I'll look to get the audio over Bluetooth functioning :)

....and Dan goes from strength to strength ..... :) Well done, perhaps a 'How To' to catalogue your project Dan? :)

Cheers

Sorry I was no help :(
By the sounds of it you've got it fitted at least as firmly as with the extra bracket.
That space is perfect for the FISCON
Something I'm curious about with audio streaming - and I have absolutely no idea about these sort of things, so please excuse a stupid question - is that with the Parrot kit in mine with the factory radio cassette you hear phone calls through the front speakers only, does the music side of things work differently?

My bet for your next mod (or second to next after the gearbox) is getting the SDS working :D

I think we got away without needing the bracket. The Polyurathane sealant is immensely strong, and also flexible. I noticed this morning that my dash is entirely free of creaks and squeaks now, which certainly didn't used to be the case. It's obvious now that the double-DIN dash is stronger with its metal insides and the single-DIN dash is a bit flimsy and must allow the whole dash to move and flex more.

The FISCON Bluetooth module is meant to allow you to stream music tracks directly off your mobile phone over the wireless Bluetooth signal - so it would appear to the RNS-E as another media input source. I'll see how it goes this weekend. In the meantime I'm desperately trying to fill up my 16GB memory card with MP3s!

It looks like my RNS-E project is going to have to go on hold longer than I planned, just when I thought I was making some headway!
Still it gives me more time to plan and plot my next move.

It's the old everything needs to be paid for at the same time.
MOT, Car Insurance, Road Tax and I believe that my rear passenger/off side wheel is buckled and thats just the car!!!
Balancing that plus family stuff means somethings got to give and RNS-E it is.

Still I'm the eternal glass half full type, so the sun may shine on me as we go for another Indian summer.:)

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the great write up. :)

Could I ask, did you fit the RNS-E unit from an A3, the part number is 8P0 035 193 B, is that correct? Also, is the HW number important if the 'B' is correct, did you find a HW02 unit or is yours different?

Regards,

Matt.
