Starting problems NOOOOOO!!!!

Hi,

I've not got my A2 yet but if I encounter this common sounding issue, roughly how much coolant is lost replacing the temp sensor - assuming there is a loss of coolant during this procedure?

Cheers,
Graeme.

It is difficult to be precise but I would say that it is usually a litre or two at the most. (If like me you are not quick)

When I did mine I lost about half a litre. Once the old sender is removed, coolant comes out at a similar rate to pouring pop out of a bottle. If you are well prepared and dextrous its possible to carefully 'work' the old sender unit out until its only hand pressure keeping it in place. With the new sender at the ready, do the change-over, just concentrating on stopping the flow of coolant. Only then work on pushing the sender fully home and aligning the slot for the clip.

Obviously the engine needs to be cold and the header tank cap removed to release any residual pressure in the system before starting.

There are more tips in an old thread - just do a search on 'gauge woes' (without the quotes)

Cheers Spike
