Today I.....

Hi Tom,
I chose the furniture clinic because I had seen you using it on your projects.
My improvised method (YouTube) was to degrease the wheel then sand then degrease. Followed by two coats with the brush 24 hours apart. No clear coat layers so I'll see how that goes. ๐Ÿคž
After it was dry I added dubbin and used the heat gun on low to rehydrate the leather.
Next a wipe down with a clean cloth and leather conditioner to remove the residue of the dubbin and add that coconut smell.
:)๐Ÿ‘
It is the first time I have used a leather repair paint. It was much easier than I had imagined.

Possibly try that sponge and dabbing technique you mentioned on the gear stick. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘

Brilliant,

Your method looks be be spot on as that wheel looks fantastic. Look forward to seeing the results of the gear knob and gaiter in the future.

Such a satisfying jobs once complete isnโ€™t it, you must be extremely happy with whatโ€™s been achieved.

Kind regards,

Tom

Received a Large box of bits. What's not to like about that!
Now just need some nice weather

Today I noticed that coolant temp reads 81โ€“84C in vcds while driving, which is rather low?
Since the needle is firmly on 90C, I guess it is time to install a new sensor.

Not necessarily, the dash needle doesn't really show accurately the real temp. This way it appears to stay close to 90 and not alarm the owner....

Changed the outer CV boot yesterday, used the cone and stretch boot, it was surprisingly easy.

Was a bit tricky turning the boot the right way and getting the shaft back in the hub.

Today I came to finish off renewing the Fuel Hoses on my FSI. However, despite taking loads of images when dismantling, I have found there's no substitute for old tech... a pencil n paper sketch! Lesson learned.
Could FSI owners please verify that the connections shown on the attached diagram are correct?
For anyone carrying out this job, the connection under the Inlet Manifold is an utter swine to access!

Why bother with the cone if you have got the drive shaft off the car. There is only a tap with a hammer to part the CV joint and shaft
Then you can fit a boot that will last as against the stretch ones that donโ€™t last

Iโ€™ll add more pictures on the Project EUD thread in the coming hours but the installation is complete. Just need to go through the pictures and type the write up.

Kind regards,

Tom

I'll say it again, why did you reply to my post about the cone and CV boot in such a way as to imply I ARSED around ?
I simply wondered how easy/ hard it would be.
I'm more than capable of taking the CV joint off and would probably do that.
What shall I do now Paul, take it off again and do it the proper way?
Regards.
John.

Sorry you seem to have taken offence at my reply. I will not reply to anything of yours in the future.
I simply pointed out that there is a correct way and a incorrect way to repair a CV joint, I apologise if I caused offence
