Unicorn Found! 1.2 tdi LHD.

Looks a good acquisition Chris. The number plates have the dealer's URL https://lrauto.de/ I see they are in Geretsried in the very south of Germany near the Austrian border. Maybe that's were is was originally sold; maybe not. How many km has it done?

Lear in this case is a different company to the one that made private jets :)

I wonder if they made my BMW dsp amp as well

Regarding the change of door, dont be surprised when you find the 1.2TDI doors are not 100% identical with std A2s.
Of course the hunt for grams affected also the height of the outside horisontal colour-coded plastic protection bar (please help me with correct name), they are narrower here.
Edit: Big congratulations btw, these are a joy to drive.

That means the car isn’t registered anywhere most likely. The plates are given to you to let you drive it out of the country

The guy I bought it from said they are 'export plates' ??
40 years ago I imported a car from Denmark with export plates. I had to pay UK tax at Harwich and then after registering in the UK I then had to get the DK plates officially destroyed and a certificate of destruction which I then had to send back to Denmark. The only bug bear was the customs guy would not accept my DK insurance and I had to buy a day's insurance at the AA office.

I wonder how to get the plates officially destroyed. So I walked into the local police station and the PC behind the counter said "Get bending" - i.e. bend the plates back and forth so they snapped. I duly did this and then he threw them in the bin and gave me a stamped letter he typed up. I bet it will be more difficult today!

After some years I converted the car from LHD to RHD over a weekend. A fairly easy job once I realised the wiring loom came across the dash from the right hand side so it could be curved back to the right.

As 'Joga' suggests, It's not on export plates.
Yes, these are German domestic plates, not export plates, so it looks like it was just driven to the uk without officially importing / declaring it.
Not sure how the DVLA will process this to be able to register it on UK plates ; especially since brexit, as I think it could be liable to import duty & VAT.

I'm sure you will be able to sort the registration out given time & it would be interesting to know how it goes.

Strictly speaking all wheels are alloys so yours definitely are !!
Ali alloys are the ones most people want . Until ones like yours are available when mag alloys are definitely the thing to have. Lighter and rarer .
Lovely car .
Not driven a lhd for a while in the UK that might be something that takes a bit of getting used to but can be done. I've used lhd cars as daily drivers in the past.

I know this comment relates to an earlier part of the thread. Only just read it though .
Hope all is well . Good luck with the resto and sorting the UK registration .

It was only the rear bench that was unique to the 3L. That car also didn’t come with air con or power steering so very much the ‘extreme’ version.

The seats in all others and indeed the front seats in all 1.2’s are standard a2.

This car @Chris Warren has is a 1.2 rather than a 3L. Still a jolly rare beast. Nearly as rare as the wheel trims he’s after 😬
True although trim different in 1,2 traditional 4 seaters (D3 v D4)
