Vauxhall Meriva

Well we took the plunge on Saturday. The Meriva goes on Tuesday evening for an A140 ‘classic’, 54 plate ‘A’ Class.

My initial thoughts on the car; good high up in car visibility, solid build – though not up to A2 standard, admirable low down grunt from the 1.4 petrol engine, positive steering and ride, fairly specified with options, practical and dare I say still carries its looks well.

Any regrets, well some. The Meriva has been a good, reliable car with vast loading capabilities. That said the most recent nonexistent fuel economy i.e. £15 equated to 66 miles before the warning light illuminated – means that overall we won’t be too sorry to see the back of the car. (66 miles was mostly accrued round town, though 20 odd miles was achieved at 70mph on the motorway with cruise activated).

Additionally, the Meriva was due a service, MOT and four new tyres. The dealer was not offering any additional incentive with a service as it will go through the auctions anyway – so we have saved there. Add that I got £1300 off the forecourt price for the 'A' Class and I still think that we have made the right choice.

Obviously I will have a much better opinion in a few weeks time, but I stand by my original statement – despite feeling positive about the ‘A’ Class, it is no A2. If it wasn’t for not really wanting to have two identical cars in the family, then the money spent on the ‘A’ Class would have definitely been better placed on a second A2.

Cheers,

Darren
