Webasto! Why won’t it work on its own…. VCDS enabled??

Which controller do you select for Webasto tests?
Mac.
Hi again Mac,

From the select control module screen select channel 018 to enter the Aux Heat. First check for faults 02 Faults, then select output test, it tests 3 areas in the following order:

1. Glow plug operation
2. Dosing pump operation
3. Heater fan operation

Once that's done I go back to see if any faults are presented on 02 Faults, then I go to Basic Setting, test/read Ch022 which activates the test run. To stop the Webasto running you have to select/test/read Ch033 which stops the test run cycle.

Hope that helps. Thank you very much for seeing wat you might be able to find as I know Diesel isn't your favourite tipple.

Kind regards,

Tom

Are you able to see what temperature the webasto internal heat sensor thinks it is ? using VCDS. mine has a problem where it thinks it's too hot so it prevents it running..
Yes I had that on the silver A2, I changed the webasto and lost all communication. Possibly the replacement was iffy

No luck, I've tried g

I can't find the lable file for the Webasto, I've tried quite hard but no luck.

Mac.
Thank you Mac,

No problems at all. I did start to look myself but there is nothing obvious within the Ross_Tech labels folder is there. I also have no way of opening the .lbl files to slowly investigate further. Hopefully this thread gets somewhere and someone works out a solution to many of our Webasto woes.

Kind regards,

Tom

It's possible I think, to search all files in the lable folder for a word, such as webasto, that might find it. I am not much of a Windows person, but if you can find it, it'll give the info you need. Change all the files from lbl to txt first.
Mac.

Im no tech geek but I was told by the webasto circuit board repair guy in a shed in midlands that the webasto has its own circuit board. THis board gets flashed for different manufacturers, ie audi vw, narrow boats etc. He said to read mine on his test rig he had to flash it some other car make, then flash it back to audi. I suspect therein lies the problem to @datsundrew loss of communication as if its not set for right audi car it wont read it. Also within this board would likely lie the settings and the ecu of our A2 just sends on or off?

Just thinking out loud as a non VCDS tehc man. May be an angle in there,,,,,

https://www.webastorepairs.co.uk/ these guys did the circuit board, one of them got ill and went into hospital long story short they took 5 weeks to send it back so said have it for free. Fair enough. Was like new when I got it back, knew their stuff..
Thanks for the link and feedback Edd,

I’ll certainly be giving them a call if I don’t get it to automatically fire up. First is to get the G81 fault rectified as that might be somehow connected to it not waking up in the cold.

Kind regards,

Tom

not sure really, i got them for the ross tech forum, this is what they contain for the webasto and climate control unit

What temp is your internal sensor in the webasto showing? 112 by any chance ?

Hopefully a bit of news on this tomorrow folks. I have been talking to Paul today, I have a bit more to investigate, but let’s just say that my Webasto fired up on its own today for the first time without VCDS being plugged in!!
I am soooo happy to have this working at long last.😀😀

I remember mine showing 125 deg hence it thinks coolant is plenty hot enough!! It never fired up until circuit board was repaired, there's a little white block that measures the temp of coolant via a metal strip screwed onto the board, it in turn is touching the metal work the coolant runs through. So indirect electrical measure of a metal, no doubt not a great method with an old board rotting away

yes, thats what mine is doing, I'm going to try re soldering it see if the resistance changes

I suspect the temp sensor on the webesto internal circuit board is the problem with my own webasto as it was reading 112 this evening which was lucky if it was actually 2deg

I will reveal all I know tomorrow, and fingers crossed could have a clue as to what causes the block to the webasto 😀
been out today and it’s fabulous to see the interior light flick and the drone of it firing up.
