Chat What is high mileage for an A2

loving the sound of these mileages, got my first A2 3 weeks ago 1 owner 54 plate TDI 75 with 55k on it, plan doing about 6k a year - idea is to pass down to my 12 year old when he passes his test so fingers crossed all goes well he will have a nice little motor to start out with in 5 or so years time.:)

Thats a lovely mileage for the year. Have you got any pics of your new purchase?

102k on the yellow storm
132k on the castle red fsi
155k on the white tdi
and hope for many many more

Mine over 200k 1.4 tdi 75ps 2005

I have 1.4 petrol and is currently on 127k . Really hoping it lasts well beyond that. Does anyone have a high mileage petrol ?

My petrol's on 225k- ish (will check) still purrs and drives like a 60k car - honestly! I've seen mechanics show visible shock when they see the odometer and hear it run. One lady owner before me. Did the cambelt at around 120k and again at around 200. Still original everything, other than the gearbox, which went around 200k. Thought about it and was so happy with it that I spent about a grand on a refurbished box and fit. Drove it, fully loaded with two bicycles on the back, from the UK to here (Denmark). Did the journey with ease. So so impressed with it. By far that best car I've purchased.

Try 217K Miles on a 52 TDI plate. It is starting to get niggles but I will try keeping it going for a little longer before going deep into my pockets!

What niggles?

Just had to finally replace the indicator relay.
Not been using ours as much lately... was difficult without indicators... hahaha.

I wonder if the lightness of the chassis/construction contributes to so many A2's effortlessly doing high mileages?

It plays a significant part, but to me the main reason that A2s get to see high mileages is that they are such nice cars to drive, have a lot of room inside and are so small on the outside parking is easy.
So if you are a multi car family, the A2 tends to get the most use.

Add to that the fact that these cars are so reliable and so well built they just soak up the miles !!!

While this is the first A2 I've owned (now at 177k), I've had cars with TDI engines before and they'll easily do 250k miles without any problems from the engine.

Current Niggles then!!

Connector / Loom problem on brake pad wear detector, was repaired but failed again, just can't see outside temp!
Door open sensor (about £80 and stripping out door!) - Does mean have to manually open fuel cap & no 'lights on' sounder
Some of my 'heat tray' underneath has broken away (whilst on the Mway!!)
Drivers Door 'restricter opening arm' is jarring
General switch transfers wearing off

No extreme drama's but just annoying!

I've had most of that done recently. Probably around the 1 day / £300-400 mark to sort that lot out I would guess. Cheaper if you do some of the work yourself, but I would suggest talking to Tony @ A2Cars, alternatively Spike, Sarge or Vince.

Brake pad loom - there is an Audi repair kit which is basically a new loom you splice in, usually in the engine compartment. Not sure which is the loom which covers the external temperature sensor.
Door microswitch - This affects a number of things. But beware that there are several different things which can also cause the fuel cap to fail to open (I've experienced a few - a) switch disintegrated, b) bad earth on that circuit, and finally c) the mechanical connector to the solenoid also failed a few months later). So make sure that you are fixing the right thing.
Undertray - you can get the attachments relatively cheaply, the undertray itself is bulky but you can probably get one off a breakers etc. Tony would be likely to have a 2nd hand one for under the Audi cost. He's also developed a clever little trick to fix connectors where the steel bolt has broken off due to galvanic corrosion.
Drivers door check strap - relatively cheap if you do it at the same time as the door microswitch.
Soft touch switches - I bought a few replacement switches from Audi, and also some pre-soft-touch controls from ebay, so it all looks a lot nicer now.
