Wheel centres stolen.

Ebay prices on some of these items fuel this behavior in my opinion, etch your reg is a good suggestion that i read earlier, not going to prevent it happening but will certainly make the culprit think about selling them on.

Only ever had my dustcaps stolen from any of my cars, unbelievable what it cost in the long run after fitting locking metal type ones that the salt and grit managed to weld to the valves, forgot about the grease.
Last thing we need now is for some modern day icon/popstar to appear on stage wearing an a2 badge round his neck,, no doubt some on here will remember the 80,s and the VW Beastie Boys episode, now that was a bad time to own a Volkswagon forget about emissions.

It will be the local toe rags looking to earn some eBay money...

Set up a local search on eBay, im sure you will see them advertised alongside various other car caps...

You wont be able to prove anything, but at least get an idea of who it 'possibly' is...

I'm going to get one of those UV pens and write rude words on mine. I've a discreet UV licence check lamp. When I had Lucy, my old Lupo, centre caps went missing- even when parked in broad daylight! Agree with the de-laminating; I got a brand new set a couple of years back and it's happening again!

I don't think these caps fits other than 16" A2 wheels. I think it would be wise to mark them somehow, maybe drill one more hole, or something, and engrave your name on the inside. Maybe you can find the A2-driving thief. And confiscate his car as a punishment!

Yep either lost or had one of my SE centre caps go missing too
My ones are screwed in so either the screw came out or someone half inched it

FleaBay want £15 notes and breakers all over the UK say they don't have the parts even though I get notifications from Breakers that have just received an A2 in and pics show centre caps in place, I think most of the breakers have caught on and are the sellers privately selling them on fleabay..

Need to find somewhere that will lathe a few out of ali !

If you are drilling a hole, is there no way to try to thread into the alloy and use a hex head bolt to secure the cap (thieves often carry screwdrivers, but rarely hex drivers?)

If it could be done in such a way that it does not look bodged it might be an option, but it may also be seen as letting idiots cause us to do stuff like this.

I like to think that the people who do this somehow get paid back in life anyway.
If they think it is ok to do things like this I am sure that one day soon they will do something that results in them being caught and punished (but please don't start me on the "punishment" debate) I often watch the police documentarys on TV (the genuine ones) and I see idiots doing crazy stuff and getting caught, only for the commentator to come on at the end and say "xxxx was taken to court and fined £10", or "xxxx received a caution"

The easiest solution is to simply not fit them. By all means retain, or gradually purchase, 4 wheel caps somewhere safe and attach them to the car when you sell it. But they are 95% cosmetic.

Hi guys.
In fact, prices for the center caps of the 16" spoke A2 wheels are prohibitive.

I was looking for options, and was wondering if maybe these small cheap hub caps would fit in the middle hole?
At least, that would give a not so "stripped" look to the wheels...

Did you ever tried these? What are your thoughts? Would they fit?
Thanks!!!

Hello and a very warm welcome to the club. Personally I've never tried them but the ads for the caps normally list diameters. I would imagine you could measure the wheel hole diameter and try and find some that match up. Brand new SE centre caps are around £24 from Crewe Audi.

Mine look a bit scabby around the edges in going to mask the middle off, rub the outer bit down and spay it...!

Bob,
I offer a refurb service on these centre caps, £10ea, for this you get the lacquer removed and the aluminium ring burnished on a lathe. It is not possible to get the same finish as Audi got, its more of a burnished metal look, but when all 4 are done they look very good. The owl cap is then coated in 5 coats of 2K lacquer. They take me 45 min each to complete, the time consuming part is polishing up the aluminium ring once all the old lacquer and pitting is removed
PM me if interested

On my last A2, someone kindly 'swapped' their knackered centres for my perfect ones!!!! No idea when it happened, but noticed it one day as they were perfect when I bought the car, but litterally over night they became scraped and knackered....all four of them!!!!

Hi just a thought re SE centre caps

2 out of my four were in crap condition so I tried to refurb the two naff ones

I took out the middle faded Audi emblem, then masked off the grey plastic centre with duck tape (two layers) rubbed the outer ring which had some awful white stuff round them and sanded the rings back to bare metal.

From a couple of feet away you cant really see the difference and I`ve saved a bundle not buying new ones.

When the other two good ones start to go my plan is the spray the outer ring on all four centre caps in the colour of the car (Dolphin Grey) with a top clear lacquer and spray the inner plastic and Audi emblem silver to match the wheels.

Reckon that will look really smart and give the car a more unique look and colour coded rings will be less attractive to thieves too.

20011.4 petrol SE, 16" 6 spokes. Some person stole my centre caps yesterday. New from Audi is £100 a set! There are some similar ones with rivet looking holes around the rim (maybe for 17" wheel?) on eBay for £18 a set. Does anyone know if they fit? Also, are the wheel bolts radius'd seat? I'm away from the car and need to order some lockers.

Thanks everyone.

Check the market area, there is a set available for £30.

Kind regards,

Tom
