Yet another very happy Stealth customer! (TDI 75 remap)

What about having a leggy TDI 75 remaped? My A2 has done 130,000 miles, but they're all motorway miles. It's been loved and regularly serviced.
I only want the remap in order to run the longer 5th gear; I'm not after speed and ferocious acceleration. I suppose my question is, how much bhp do I need to run the longer 5th? Would 100 do it?

...I appreciate I really ought to be speaking in terms of torque, seeing as I'm talking about ability to drive a longer gear.

Cheers,

Tom

There are un-mapped TDi 75's that are running the 0.659 ratio around - no need to go to the expense of a map for this.

Cheers,

Mike

mines being done on Wednesday, but to be honest mine runs ok on a 0.659 ratio, its just my other car is a mapped Touran 2.0TDI, and the A2 feels a tad gutless in comparason.

And its done 123k. Vince from Stealth said 120k is ok - they are just about run in at 100k!!
my previous A2 is still going strong at 186k - my sister has it now.

Cheers folks,

If it'll run the longer gear without a remap, I'll save myself the additional insurance, etc. Do my insurance company need to know about the longer gear? What about FSDs? Are these considered a performance mod, thus adding to the premium?

Tom.

Longer Gear Technically Yes but No.
FSDs Tell them you have replaced them, but point out they are an OEM replacements and your not lowering the car. They will ask what they cost you, as you are increasing it's value.;)
Remap Yes they are hot on this! But it is up to you! ;)

My advice is to tell them everything you do or the previous owner had done!and make shure it is listed on the policy.
In the event of a crash they find FSD's on the car and you did not tell them it could cause you a big problem.

I had to pay £30.00 to DirectLine for Audi completion wheels even though they were optional wheels! They classed them as replacement wheels because when it left the factory they were not on it!

Tom, when I was at Churchill they didn't want any extra for the 5th gear but quoted £30 for the remap (£200 to £230 FC). A few weeks later when I said I was going ahead they refused to cover (change of policy they said). I had to cancel the remap and look around. Not many cover remaps. In the end I went for Equity Red Star at £300 through Adrian Flux.

I agree with Design-Time, tell them everything to be safe but it could mean you are excluded from the more competitive and mainstream internet deals.

It's a bit like foreign travel insurance. On the internet European cover for a few weeks for £30 quid. Call the call centre because you are taking medication and it's double and they will exclude things - can't win :(

Thanks to those who've helped with this one. I'll certainly always tell them everything, as there's little point in invalidating one's insurance, but I think I'll always be sure to phone around before any serious modifications. At 25, my insurance isn't too bad; I pay about £400 FC. I've got 5 years no claims and have had my licence for as long as you'd image, but when people my age and gender start modifying their cars, insurance companies either run a mile or charge lots!

Cheers,

Tom

My insurance company told me that anything non-standard on the car was notifiable, so even if you put FSD's on as OEM replacements without lowering you should still tell them or they are not covered.

Have you tried Adrian Flux??
