New arrival..

So I've got another gearbox for this car, although I'm in no hurry to fit it, it can wait until the weather is a bit warmer. It's from a fairly high mileage car, but it's supposed to be good, and it looks to me like it has had work done on it, so maybe it's even been reconditioned at some point.

@martin 54 I'm still happy to send it down to you if you are not getting anywhere with a replacement. :)

Sorry i have not got back to you before, The gearbox that Hef has is the right one for the TDI. planning to drive up to Aberedare next weekend for it. when we swap boxes will perhaps look at the sick box.

Just gave it a much deserved wash, it's really in remarkably good condition for a 22 year old car!

The seats are quite disgustingly filthy though, to be fair they were like that when I bought it many years ago. I might take them out and see if a specialist cleaners can get them spruced up. I like that they are a contrast rather than the usual Audi Black on Black on Black..

I noticed a fair bit of oil on the alternator when I had the bonnet off yesterday. Something else to investigate..

For really filthy seats I remove them, mix up some washing powder in a bucket of warm water, use a jumbo sponge to completely soak the material. I fully recline the seat. Then a hard scrub with a brush. I then place the seat upright leaning against something and use a pressure washer. I have an old VAX wet vac which I then use to suck as much water out as possible. They can then be left to dry, ideally in the sunshine, although not much of that about lately.

Having given up on the grey car for the moment, I've had a little flurry of activity on this one.
  • I set the wipers properly
  • Refitted the rear boot panel properly
  • Put new bulbs in the rear number plate lights
  • Glued back the headlining in the rear
  • Washed it
I've also taken the back seat out, so that crazy neighbour Sue can see how ideal it will be for carting her dogs about this summer. I'm hoping for a sale, even though she preferred the grey one colour wise.

I put this one on fb Marketplace yesterday and sold it the same day. The new owner is a real car guy, and has been wanting one for a while , so that's cool.

With the slightly iffy gearbox, it needing a cambelt, and the diesels not being ULEZ compliant I let it go very cheap, but I'm happy it;s gone to a good home. It's a bit of a relief to have one less car and a bit of a top up of my bank balance. :)
