updated the mirror knob and window switches on the drivers side looks a lot fresher, scrubbed off the soft touch at the time....

also resolved the issue with the interior door handle
So the cable inside the white rod was bent luckily managed to straighten it and now all good.

next up was the climate control, picked up a A4 B5 unit off eBay.

Brings back memories of my old car i had for 16 years! a '00 A4 B5 2.4 Tip I had since from '02 till '18

Glad i dismantled the unit as it was really dirty

took all the buttons and rubbed off the soft touch and gave them a bath in warm soapy green stuff.

looked really good in this picture

in the car now in the picture you can clearly see the hard touch B5 buttons and the 8Z surround however, actually looking at it from the drivers seat looks pretty good.

Great work,

That climate panel looks spot on now. Amazing transformation.

Kind regards,

Tom

We have had the car for 2 weeks now..
Oil Service time with my son, idea is to teach him some simple car maintenance

Here some goodies that arrived the week before...

no real horrors under the car other than a little nick on the power steering pipe luckily not gone too deep, the front bumper is split which I will repair at a later stage. The car some oil residue around the sump also noticed a drip around the sump bolt. when i took the sump bolt off it did feel a bit tight coming off the bolt looked a cheapo shiny bolt when i compared with the febi replacement noticed the thread looked slightly different.
We went on easy with the bolt threading and partially unthreading just to make sure.

used @mtl idea of wrapping foil around some parts just below the oil filter to avoid the oil going everywhere.
New Mannol 5w/40 VOLKSWAGEN 502.00 / 505.00 spec oil going in.

then proceed to change the air filter was pretty clean but changed it anyway, then to our horror took out the old pollen filter yuck and to top it all I noticed that the airflow was the wrong way round!!! I dont think its been changed in a long while!

Was on the hunt for a coffee cup that would fit into the shallow front cup holder. Found this little one in TK Maxx yesterday, doesn't quite touch the base of the holder but its a snug fit.

Neat thing it collapses and could be put away in the glovebox. Perfect for a road trip whilst on the move.

The tyre pump power switch was rock solid and impossible to turn it on. Took the pump apart and the switch could not see what the issue was at first...

in the end with a little frustration the switch apart a few times could not see what the issue was... just that it was really tight!
Then i got more annoyed and pressed the button on my desk and i heard a pop the white part on the back of the rocker switch moved.. Due to lack of use for 22 years at least. It must be spring loaded inside. put some silicone spray and put in back together and now works its not perfect but a lot better than before.
