Today I.....

Hello all,

Today I… Had these wheels removed:

To make way for last night purchase above in Post #15738. The very same Goodyear tyres (less than 1000 miles) were added to them. Here’s how Project EYV now looks:

The whole vehicle could do with a few layers polish and wax but it sits there sporting a nice presence. Super happy with the results so far.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon,

Totally agree with you which is why I considered looking for another set with a great factory finish, I honestly did t think I’d find such a set though and if I did then I knew they would be in someone’s garage in Germany, never thought I’d find a set just 5 minutes from me.

I know some people have said over PM and WhatsApp that they actually like the darker look too. The darker set would look nice on a darker coloured A2 for a stealthy kind of look.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening,

The front shocks and springs have been changed in the last couple years by WOM Automotive for Bilstein B4s with Sachs springs. The rears are still on 8 year old Koni FSDs (which are still fine) but have new Bilstein B4s to fit when the weather isn’t so unpredictable (as I’m having to do the maintenance outside).

The tyres I have chosen are Goodyear EfficientGrip 205/45/16. Look good and have perfect rim protection. Both the fleet now have matching wheels and tyres:

Hope this fully answers your questions.

Haha,

I’m really taken by the colour as you can tell, got bitten by the Jaipur Bug quite hard. As I really love the way Project EUD is coming along I thought why not just create 2 (almost) identical examples.

Kind regards,

Tom

A well deserved wash followed by clay bar to remove tar spots and general contaminants. Then a little polish with Bilt Hamber then a ceramic coat spray. The old girl still looks rather well for just shy of 270k miles 😁View attachment 122593
Evening,

That looks super clean doesn’t it, even more so for 270k miles. The A2 has aged well and if maintained can still look like a relatively new marque when presented nicely like you have.

Kind regards.

Cheers Tom, the previous owner looked after her very well I've just continued using the car regularly and maintaining doing what I can plus garage work where beyond my basic skills. With a private plate I think some folks assume it's some new Audi model 😂

Replaced my Side indicators today. Clips were broken on original ones and had been "stuck on"
Replacement Dynamic LED ones were £5 for the pair on AliExpress, not sure how long they'll last but look good for now :)

The oil pipe from the filler clips into the cylinder block. I would have removed the pipe from the block then the two screws that retain the filler part into the slam panel and then poke out the screw. Unless you have added oil it is unlikely to have found its way into the sump Even then there is a fair chance it will just sit on the bottom of the sump like the broken dip stick end(s) so and not cause any issues. The oil pick up pipe as a strainer on it so no way can it get I heated into the oil pump
If it is in the sump it may come out with the oil if you drop it as per an oil change

I did the same 3 years ago, they still look good & work fine, better than before.

Evening John,

Haha, I might just have a spare set which are immaculately powder coated but have gone dark if you want to finish them off in a more factory looking colour!

I’m my eyes they’re light and only some 400g heavier than pepperpots which is quite good and they’re an in bigger in diameter and an inch wider too:

Pepperpot 5750g:

My favourite wheels 6121g

Compared to the 1100g+ A2 Sport Wheels these are super strong and quite a saving of unsprung weight. Similar efficiency as the Pepperpots but fill the arches so much better. The 5x100 to 5x112 hub adapters add a further few hundred grams but I can accept that for the pleasing aesthetics I’m provided with.

Apologies for the long winded answer Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom
Hi Tom, they’re looking good I just wonder if the combination of the wheel and a 16” tyre with lower profile would be lighter than a pepperpot and tyre???

Afternoon George,

I couldn't say for sure but assume they will certainly be heavier, but not by much compared to returning to stock 17s though.

The pepperpots without tyres are already some 400g lighter and from a quick look online, it appears that the 185/60/15 tyres could be some 4kg lighter than the 205/45/16 tyres on the slightly heavier A8 wheels.

The below weights are what I’ve obtained from a quick search so could well inaccurate:

5.7kg - Pepperpots
6.5kg - 185/60/15 tyre

6.1kg - A8 D2 Wheels
10kg - 205/45/16 tyre

Yes my preferred choice is not as economical as what I had fitted previously but they can be forgiven for this by the way they look in comparison to the inset pepperpots that just don’t fill the arch enough for the presence/stance I was seeking. Lets be honest here, these wheels aesthetics are absolutely awesome so even if they were as heavy as the A2 Sport 17” wheels then I’d still run them!

I know you’ve got Pepperpots and A8 wheels up the road, have you weighed them in the past for a more accurate calculation. If not then I’ll weigh mine when they’re next off the vehicle as I’m due to be swapping the rear struts soon. Ive already got a set of pepperpots (awaiting collection by Colin) here with tyres that I could weigh before there moved on.

From memory you have these wheels (circa 2.5kg heavier) that were on the Pine Green A2 so guessing your A8 wheels should weigh just below 19kg:

Today I started taking off the front suspension, I had sprayed the nuts &bolts 3 or 4 times over about a week.
I got out a “Tite-Reach”, breaker bar, 1/2” and 3/8” ratchets and 10mm and 13mm ratchet spanners ready to go. 1 1/2 hrs later all 6 bolts are out of the top mounts. I know it won’t be a record but I expected it would take longer. I bet @Dunbikin
Dave did them in half the time but I’m a septuagenarian with artificial bits. Lol

Today, I might have sadly initiated an end of the journey for my A2 1.4 TDi. If the fallen object is found then no issues, if not :(

While trying to change Intercooler air sensor, a screw head came off and has dropped in the oil filler tube not to be found anywhere in the vicinity. I checked and it's not fallen on the under tray. Fortunately having realised immediately, I haven't started the car and it has been towed to the nearest Audi specialist. Lets see what happens in upcoming days.

The hope is that it will still be logged in the horizontal part of the filler tube. If not has fallen down in the sump and it can be retrieved by removing the sump. I will highly appreciate some knowledge from the members on the forum.

Fingers crossed.
Update on the last post: The screw driver head was in the filling tube itself so didn’t even enter the engine and could be retrieved without much hassle. The engine hesitation between 1800 rpm onwards seems to have been a result of some pipe being loose / disconnected from Turbo. Will get the car back tomorrow and test its drive on my way back. 😊

I'm very glad you got this sorted. Some times problems like this can be so disheartening and then a bit of luck comes your way. Always worth checking on the forum. I've had so much help since I've had my A2.
