Not only is 2024, the 25th Anniversary of the A2, but our friends in the AA2OG celebrate their 10 year anniversary and have invited us to join them for a 'Not quite the Highlands and taste of Yorkshire Tour. Starting in Biggar on Friday 31st May, before touring up to St Andrews on 2nd June and then finishing in Whitby and Heartbeat country on 3rd June, this promises to be an epic trip that you can join for the whole or part of the weekend.
Timetable (exact times to be confirmed nearer the time)
Friday 31st May
Led by George Ormiston ( @NLS14M ) , we will be starting off at 10.00 am in Biggar for a tour out to places of interest, ending in Moffat. Group evening meal possible
Saturday 1st June
Still with George, we will start out from Moffat for a tour out, arriving in Peebles around 4pm
Sunday 2nd June
Meeting at The Rhynd for their Bacon and Bakes breakfast meet at 8.45 am, Ian Cowie ( @ICowie ) will lead us out for a scenic drive to St Andrews and a visit to the Secret Bunker with the day ending around 4pm
Monday 3rd June
Meeting in Whitby Abbey Car Park at 10.30 am, Becky Dack will then lead us to the Grosmount car park in Goathland (Heartbeat County) for 1pm and then onto the Ropery car park in Pickering for 15.30, finishing around 17.30
Accommodation
There are a variety of accommodation choices in each of the areas and traveling distances from home to each location and between locations will determine accommodation needs. In case it is useful, this is where Gary and I are planning to stay (due to distance and leave limitations, we will be traveling up on the Friday so will miss a large part of that day and are likely to need to leave when we leave Whitby on the Monday)
Friday night (31st) - Days Inn by Wyndham Lockerbie Annandale Water (10 miles from Mofatt)
Saturday night (1st) - Holiday Inn Express - Glenthroes just over an hour from Peebles and just over half an hour from the Rhynd for the next morning)
Sunday night (2nd) - Premier Inn Ashington, Northumberland (we realised that St Andrews to Whitby is about a 5 hour drive, so we needed to stay part way there on the Sunday night to avoid a very early start on the Monday morning. Ashington is just over half way and the Premier inn is only £39 standard rate at time of writing)
James (@jp.oog )from the A2 Owners Group is the main organiser for this event and the itinerary looks fabulous. Hope to see you there.
