Today I.....

Today 1...... Did something very stupid. I test drove an i3 at a BMW dealership!!!!

BIG mistake, I now want one even more!!!!

The acceleration was superb (0-60 matching an M3 apparently!!!)

The ride was great too, firm but comfortable.

I like the way that as you lift off the throttle it slows you down (due to the regenerative brake recovery, in other words the battery is being charged and that causes the slow down a bit like F1 one cars do with DRS).
It needs you to change your driving style slightly, but it has advantages. I did the whole test drive without needing to take my foot off the accelerator and brake (apart from when the guy in front decided to turn without indicating)

I parked it next to my car and they were almost identical in length and as we all know, they are quite similar in shape and proportions.

I WANT ONE !!!

Enough to leave A2 ownership? A scary thought!!

I hear you on the one pedal driving. That's what really got me impressed when I test drove the M3, except the performance and the fact that it's an electric car. That's the way a car should be driven for commuting/transport. Perhaps not a race track, but that's not what the i3 is designed for.

I would never be in a situation where I do not own an A2. With my wife's 90 it is an ideal partner for an i3. Use the i3 for the short hops and around town and the 90 for everything else. (Plus the other 6 in the family means I am surrounded by them).
So you guys are stuck with me on here forever!!!

There is still one huge problem that I have mentioned before, the financial loss when / if I sell mine is probably going to put a stop to this.
I have been silly again a spent so much money on my car that it is virtually unsaleable. The most miney I have seen an A2 advertised for is high £7k. Yes mine has had a fortune spent on it but there are very few people looking to spend a large amount on an A2. So if I advertised it at the lowest I could possibly accept it might never sell.

By the way, this is not an attempt to break the marketplace rules, this is not me trying to advertise the car in an auction style sale. I fact I will stop mentioning this subject now it may well be annoying people with me prattling on about this.

Steve after the initial newness had worn off you would be bored with it..
How you gonna customise something like that, yes change the wheels but you would be bored in five minutes I bet

The A2 is your dream motor and you know it, pretty sure you would seriously regret selling your A2 from the things you have relayed to us all about your affection for it.

One final word on thre above subject, Wifey said NO !

It is a case of listening to your head rather than your heart. My brains are the heart and said yes, but my wife's brains are my head !1

So she has said the sensible thing and said "No, you are not losing that much money on selling your car".

She is a cracker of a woman, she is my rock. I don't necessarily like what she is saying but I respect her view, and she is right.

So back to "Today I ........"

Today I fitted the embossed plates I bought at VAG at the Manor. They are totally legal and I think they look good, and at £30 while U wait (2minutes!!) I am very happy with the results.

And after (slightly different angle and please ignore the squashed flies from my trip back from the show)

@Steve, try drilling two 10mm holes in the bottom of the drivers Headlight and one 8mm one at the side. Did mine in February I think and have had no condensation whatsoever since or problems with water ingress.

Hi Steve, I have only just refitted the split headlamps without any sealer (temporarily), so that is why the water is getting in, I have that on my to do list (but thanks for the suggestion, that seems to work.

Can you make photo of the holes sometimes?

as long as they are at the bottom and away from the back edge you will be fine. Have the rear cover off so you can see that you are not drilling into anything.

There are two solutions to this issue.
Mine it to completely seal the unit so that water cannot get in and only if that does not work (which it should do. ) drilling the two holes let's the moisture out without letting water in.

Today, I picked my car up after having some panels painted. The rear bumper, and both front doors have all been resprayed. I'll post some photographs on my 'Members Cars' thread when it's clean again - sadly its first outing post paint was in the rain. :)

Regards,

Matt.

As promised, the car is finally clean again and so I've taken a couple of photographs. Both front doors and the rear bumper have been painted. :)

Regards,

Matt.

Looks stunning Matt; great job. Seeing your beautiful car on 17" rims is making me think even harder about my future plans...

Paint job looks great from the photographs, no obvious colour transition.

P.S. Is that the latest in DAB aerials in picture 2? ;)

...and I picked my car up after finally having it's CV boot and joint issue fixed, by my trusted independent garage. :p

The nearside outer gaiter was badly torn and offered no protection to the joint, the inner joint had movement, and on the offside, both boots had deteriorated but were still stopping dirt. As such, I decided to bite the bullet and get all of the joints and boots changed since it isn't a job I'll be planning to do again. The condition of the old parts would definitely have been an MOT failure, and so it's good to get them done well before October, when it's due.

All of the parts (2 inner joint kits and 2 outer joint kits) were supplied by 'J&R CV Joints'. All seemed good quality and pretty good value. J&R's part number for the TDI inner joints is JR151 and the part number for the TDI outer joints is JR29801, though I suspect the outers are the same for all models.

Regards,

Matt. :)

Today I did a bit of work on Matt's lovely A2, by streamlining his DAB aerial... ;)

Matt's A2.jpg

Seriously, a great picture of a lovely car that deserves to look its best. One for the album Matt and hope you don't mind my editing your original.

Technically it was Tuesday, but I haven't been able to get on here long enough.

Finally got my clutch changed, after living with it juddering for far too long, it's now super light and smooth. Had a few more bits sorted at the same time too, and serviced. Car drives great now. Next on the list is a dash swap and audio upgrade :D
