Today I.....

That is a fantastic write up and it was good of you to give the full "blow by blow" details.

It is posts like this that make this club great. It will have taken time to write that and it is purely for the benefit of others.

Thank you!!

Same experience here Paul. Passenger side was fine, Drivers side was a nightmare. My full suspension rebuild included dislodging the return pipes for the brake master cylinder, having to strip the scuttle panel down, bleeding the brakes and having to replace the wheel cylinders = almost 20 hours in total with a few other jobs. Have done other cars (non A2) in about 5 hours total many a time.

Steve,
Your 'associated problems' where far worse than mine, I'm now felling like I had it easy, but it certainly didn't fee like it yesterday.
Still I must be over it as I have ordered another set for my Petrol A2 :)

Cheers,
Paul (Depronman)

...have pushed myself harder with running; with the encouragement and support of my beautiful girlfriend, I have achieved a 5 mile run! Finished off with a sprint... that gave me a slight stomach fault (stitch) but all is well! A bit sweaty now however! I've only just started doing this and as I'm in a driving job, the exercise is definitely worth it! :)

Yesterday Evening I bought my cheapest A2 as of yet £10.50

A2 scale model car.PNG

although its only 12.5cm long, 5cm wide and 4.5cm high approximately ;)

I was looking at this but forgot to bid, it would have just fitted in my new garage
At least we didn't get into a bidding war.

New EGR valve today and a proper valet

Really looks great; stunning. Whiltst I don't think I would be brave enough to have another white car, I admire your dedication.

BTW, looks like you have a RHD A2 with German plates but you are based in Stockport. Confused! I thought the Germans were technically and bureaucratically very tough when it comes to registering vehicles.

They are just german style plates it's a uk registration LOL

Today, while looking for a CD to play in my glovebox, I found out that I have the leather folder of manuals for my A2. When I bought it, I got told there was only the service book. So for over two years, it's been in my glovebox all along. I wish I hadn't bought another one now :D

...test drove a diesel Focus ST. And I'm almost impressed. I'd driven the same roads with the A2 a week or so ago and the A2 really showed what it can do. Very, very good over the undulations and tight corners of that particular road. The Focus was far more composed and aloof, which is kind of good and kind of bad.
Over the weekend we visited the summer house for the first time in around 18 months and the roads have deteriorated, badly, to the point that the bumps on two sections forced me to 30km/h. I suspect even the Focus couldn't iron those out, even though the compromise poise / compliancy was very, very good.

It's too much power, though. 400Nm through the front wheels even in the dry resulted in the autobox shifting almost immediately out of first then through two and three in quick succession. Nice acceleration, but I don't see the point here.

The A2, meanwhile, is having a rest after dealing with 800km over teh weekend going up north and back. Average appears to have been around 5.7l/100, so around 49mpg. Happy with that, especially also with the suspension when lightly loaded on some truly bad road surfaces.

Today I started my Fsi as normal and proceeded to open both from Windows (no aircon in my dayly) only to find the passenger window won't open with either switch - grrrr

Have you tried the disconnect and reconnect trick for this (either the battery or CCCU unit can be disconnected and reconnected). It has worked in the past. A long shot but a free and easy test.

Ahh the wonders of being able to park outside London. If you park like that round here you'll either get sideswiped, or a ticket for parking too far away from the kerb!

Sarge

Ah. that is an anti-kerbing method to protect the wheels. :) I suspect, I sometimes do that (unintentionally) but it is better than kerbing your alloys (or in this case your Dad's alloys)

i see that you didn't quite match that gap with your car.

..... assigned my car with the registration number "A2 TNU" on line. I only bought it last Friday from the DVLA and the certificate came through in the post this morning. A process which I thought may take a month has taken less than five days - good result !. :)

Changed my reg number many years ago. Told the insurers but forgot about the MOT certificate. I guess that bit's easier to do now it's 'electronic' rather than the only record being a paper certificate.

Cheers Spike

Its really easy to do now Spike - you do not even have to send off the old registration document. They tell you to rip it up when the new one arrives in the post. After assigning the new registration number online the DVLA simply send you an email message straight away authorising you to put on the new plates.

I agree its a doddle compared to how it used to be and I think the MOT is automatically updated for you as well. :)

Today I went over to meet Sarge to pick up a G200 lateral speed sensor for my TDI
What a thoroughly nice man he is, full of knowledge of the A2 and plenty of cars on the driveway ready for any spares forum members, ebayers, Shpockers and Gumtree'rs may need, he already had my part off the car and ready to go, great service indeed..

I will be buying more bits in the future thats for sure as he is a great resource for parts, anyone around the London area would be a fool not paying him a visit for spares
