Today I.....

You probably picked the best week to sell the MG. The weather is like magnet for soft tops and can help seal the deal.

Things were a little harder to arrange because of lockdown and I was waiting to find a local buyer. It was one of the strangest sales I’ve had. The guy walked to my house, he had a look around the already unlocked car while I waited in the garage. He said he liked it and threw the cash to me in an envelope and I threw the keys to him ? Job done

Hi mark it’s my neck but yes so much better they put me on amitriptyline a while back at least I sleep well now so back doing projects no truck rebuilds but lots in the garden ..,was looking forward to some fly fishing but that’s been knocked on the head for now ..Paul

Congratulations. Remember to take the amitriptyline after dinner rather than just at bedtime (assuming you sleep a normal shift pattern). It can help reduce any morning drowsiness.

Always a risk in belonging to a forum like this, in that one can catch OCD. Having cleaned and preped the car for the Agreed Value insurance I though I would continue and see if I could remove the tar marks all over the inside of the rear wheel. I used bug and tar remover and it took about 5 or more minutes to start to soften the tar and then some gentle rubbing for a good few more minutes and then using my nails it came off. Forgot to take a before photo but here's an after one. I saw the wheels were made in Norway.

With the wheel off I thought I would splash some Kurust over the rear suspension arm. I did this some years ago and it's worked quite well. Goes on easily and dries quickly. Plan is to refurbish it at some point.

I just bought some more Kurust on ebay for £9.99 inc. p&p for 250ml but a lot of places said they were out of stock. Maybe a combination more people with time on their hands and production shutdowns and furloughs. One guy on ebay wanted £30 for 250ml and plenty of others wanted £7 to £8 for 90ml. Wild pricing.

I also bought some more ArmorAll Protectant Gloss 500ml for just £4.75. I find that works really well on plastic trim on the inside and on the plastic skirts and bumper black outside - far better than wax on the these. Picture is after removing more tar and then applying ArmorAll Protectant and buffing with a microfibre cloth.

Decided to re-badge the car today. Not a difficult task I hear you say but if they didn't go on straight it would have bugged me to the point of having to do it all over again. After asking other members for measurements and studying loads of ads......... masked up and took the plunge.
They are on straight so I am happy for now.

What did you use to stick them on? I'm reminded that yesterday I spotted the i in my TDi was loose. Some years back when I was washing the car I noticed the dot in 1.4 was missing and luckily saw it on the ground. I used a very small amount of epoxy - probably not the thing to use but it's still very firm.

So today I had a few hours spare .... again

Project shed, which is the daily driver / shopping trolley/ skip run car had developed a nasty rattle over the winter which went away , turned out it was the front brake disc stone guard which then fell off ..

so being dead bored , strippee down and replaced the stone guard , and also stripped the front discs and pads , bit of a clean and check over while i had the front wheels in the air etc

the stone guard was from auto doc , the new flange head bolts M6 x 10mm , the discs and pads was suitable for reuse

here’s a couple of You tube clips , for those that are unsure , if those basic maintenance tasks are within your skill set / tool range , both are around 12-15 minutes long , and was uploaded as “ shot “ so no fancy editing here ..l,

let me know what you think, one video I talked about what I was doing , the other , just let the actions do the talking

regards Mark

I always use JTAPE VEHICLE BADGE TAPE as it is quick and easy to use. For a single dot it would a bit excesive but for any badge or emblem it is good stuff.

A2Steve sold a Saab convertible like that once he didn’t even look at it just give me the money and drove off in it lol

It has been left in its perfect place. Could you share here the measures you have to place the badgets in their original position?

Thank you!

I measured 4cm from each outside edge and followed the line of the lowest clear lens of the light cluster.

Decided to tackle the front wheels today. Took 3 hours for one wheel cf 1 hour for the rears. All the wheels were refurbished 1.5 years ago and the rears easily came up like new. On the front the brake dust had harden and was a devil to shift. Got there in the end but corrosion has started to creep back around the hub (the dark black edge).

Mind you I wasted 1/2 hr struggling to get the cap off a new 1L bottle of Mer polish. In the end resorted to putting it in a wood vice, clamping the cap with mole grips and turning while pressing down. Then pulling up and unscrewing. Luckily the bottle didn't split and flood the garage floor. Mind you my previous 3L bottle was not easy either. Maybe it's me!

When putting the wheel on I noticed 2 things. 1st the little triangular alcove which was full of harden mud - if this was a steel car it would have rusted through by now! - and 2nd this writing on the body.

It says Al Si Mn Mg. I found this article which says the Audi A8 (and by implication the A2) was made of AA6016 aluminium alloy and that has the following metals added to the aluminium: 0.3-0.6% magnesium, 1.0-1.5% silicon, <0.2% copper, <0.5% iron, <0.4% manganese. These are added to improve the aluminium hardness during the various baking and quenching processes, including final paint baking. Something for the next pub quiz ;)

Thats good news Paul about your neck and the new drugs. One good bit of cautious news according to some, it looks like us loners ( ? ) the stereotypical name given to us are going to be one of the first sports to be aloud back at it. ? ?

....sold the MG I’ve been running around in for the last month.

I’ve scratched an itch and enjoyed driving it but it’s made me appreciate how much I like A2’a. I’m now looking forward to getting my FSI into top condition.

how did you find this ? My book keeper has one and keeps offering it me cheap as a runaround and its a late one and low miles
