Today I.....

Last night, my girlfriend Jessica, who's a vet, was called to a road accident involving a deer. The deer was badly injured, so had to be euthanised at the scene. This was done by shaving an area of fur and giving a lethal injection. This morning, Jessica gave me a lockdown haircut. No prizes for guessing which tool she used. Thankfully it wasn't followed by lethal injection.

how did you find this ? My book keeper has one and keeps offering it me cheap as a runaround and its a late one and low miles

I enjoyed it, its more of a cruiser than a sports car though. The main thing you need to look out for though is rust and a record of the headgasket being changed, although at around £350 its not the end of the world if it does go. Build quality is nowhere near as bad as people make out and the k-series is a nice revvy engine, but just don't expect late 90's/00's Audi build quality.

We need photo's (of your hair without your floppy boyband locks that is, not the dead deer)

... I bought some old A3 wheels, they might end up as winter rims for SHE.

Yes also fitted to the A3

They look to be a very original set which are chromed over the alloy. Very few sets have survived without the alloy corroding under the chrome They normally end up painted which is ok but to find a set which look to be in mint original condition is a sweet find

I think it is hard to tell the difference, but these are 6" 15" 8L0 601 025 M, while the A2 wheel is 5,5" 15". Dont have that part nr in my head though, perhaps someone else has it?

Indeed. Both the narrower A2 version and the A3 version are still available new

You could have warned me on the price I nearly spat out my beer
You could get a tidy A2 including alloys, for less that the cost of a set of these alloys new from Audi

They do look in good condition and a good find too as being 1/2" wider they should look better on the A2 than the 5.5j originals, as although imo they offer the best ride quality by far, they do look a little narrow for my taste.

Just for reference, they look to be in their factory finish which is a diamond cut/machined and lacquered finish not chromed over, hence why the lacquer struggles to bond well to the bare alloy and results in white 'worming' where water penetrates, usually as a result of a scuff or stone chip.

Unfortunately I think you will see evidence of this when the balancing weights are removed from the face, where they shouldn't have really been fitted.

Nevertheless a nice set of wheels ?

Just want to point out that even if the picture gives a good impression of the wheels, they actually are with scuffs here and there so I am not too guilty of thinking of having them for winter use. ;) And they were cheeap.

The sets of these wheels that I have refurbished in the past have all been chromed from new. Its bloody hard work to remove the remains of the chrome

Not wishing to appear confrontational but it is definitely lacquer and they need chemically dipping to strip them properly as otherwise, as you say it's very difficult to remove which I know as I stripped one wheel myself manually with the aid of nitro morse from memory but never again ?

your better off licking it then using nitro morse these days :p?

The A2 ones that I refurbished. 2 sets from. Y reg and a 51 reg A2 where chrome
It was blunting my Dremel burrs very quickly so I took some of the swarf to work and had it analysed came back as mainly chromium with a little magnesium as well
Also the finished looked exactly like chrome
Was a process adopted by vag in the late 90’s and early 00’s
