Week eight of lock down and week four of back garden camping so we decided to get the A2 back on it's wheels after eighteen months of well earned rest. Suspension and brakes all renewed while it's been laid up, starter motor serviced, underneath cleaned and rear cross beam de-rusted and painted ... no rush or panic to do anything ... and today it was given a thorough clean inside and out. Wheels still to paint, a couple of seals in the cooling system and a new thermostat are next, just a few small jobs and then it will be in tip top condition .... T- Cut and polish maybe this week ... eighteen years, 190 thousand miles and still going strong ... certainly built to last.
Car started without the slightest hesitation and brakes were tried for the first time ... well they work, which is always good ... discovered the tailgate actuator motor had failed (or stuck) and wouldn't latch in the closed position ... quick strip down and lubrication and it works again, hopefully get another eighteen years out of it ... if not I can at least order a new part as below.
One small issue with battery light staying on until you give the engine a rev ... will replace the rectifier before it goes back on the road
No other warning lights lit up on the dash, gears, clutch, windows all working without issues ... I was expecting problems but was pleasantly surprised when there weren't any.
All in all a thoroughly satisfying and productive day!!
