Today I.....

Today I upgraded my turbo from the stock GT1544 (75hp, wastegate) to GTC1444VZ in my 1.4TDI. Next step is bigger injectors and remap. Anyone interested in project topic?

could you tell us more about turbo upgrade please which car/engine etc thanks

2001 A2 with the 1.4TDI AMF engine. Done 242k miles.
Changing the turbo required modifying the downpipe, turbo inlet hose, turbo outlet hose, and the turbo flange to exhaust manifold. Also had to change the wastegate control valve to vacuum type N75 since the new turbo is VNT.

Today also did this: Fuel consumption on small DIS. Thanks so much for the info!

What map are you using? One from the ATL?

Would be good to have a write up of the N75 change as that’s the confusing bit of the change over in my opinion.

Still stock AMF map, but hopefully that is going to change very soon. N75 surely needs remapping with this bigger turbo. It works fine though, fast spool and no overboost.

Made some flowerpots for the kids sunflowers lol

So, my new audi A2 has got new discs and pads, longlife air filter and has a service booked next week. But when looking around, and the seller did mention it, it has a tow bar setup but the removable tow bar has been removed. Are these easy to find, were there a limited number of options? I wouldn't want to tow but useful to put a bike on a rack that could fix onto a tow bar.

That’s a nice addition to have. That doesn’t look to be a factory tow bar, so may well be a GDW one. Hopefully someone who has the same setup can confirm,

Yesterday evening I finally got my blue tooth to work on my (new to me Audi A5 Cab)
Audi need a medal for making the Audio options so complicated and as such it makes buying a blue tooth AMI cable damn complicated and very hit and mis
Add to that that most eBay sellers don’t really know what they are selling and don’t describe it correctly
I bought in total three BT AMI cables all stated they where for a 2014 A5 with concert HU and none worked
Some considerable time spent googling yielded that I have an MMI gen 2 interface on the AMI system and as such when it select external audio in (Aux in in old money) it turns off the power
The BT unit then whilst audio connected as no power so doesn’t work
Solution is a little cable hacking to attach a 5v feed from an old usb phone cable. The 5v is now supplies to the BT unit via the usb lead from at the moment the fag lighter socked under the hu and a std aux socket to usb converter

The result is I now have working BT
Not a totally ideal solution as it just provides a BT audi connection. Or no control of the song being played with the cars controls
It’s good enough as Audi provided an SD slot for music and the CD player reads mp3 data so that’s the music side sorted plus dab as std
The BT is mainly for sat nav and music when satnav is needed

Why oh why did Audi need to make it all so complicated
It’s been my lock down project on and off

Hopefully may help some one else who as a latter car from the VAG stable

Cheers. Paul

Today I booked our A2 in for a New Clutch at WOM Automotive. Dropping it off Thursday next week. Asked them to check the Steering Knuckles for wear on the Caliper Holder things while it is in there. Also dropped of my Spare 16” SE Wheel off for a full Refurb. at Top Wheels Lancaster with a New Tyre to put on afterwards.

Today, I thought I'd adjust my gear linkages because they felt so awful when I first got the car. It all seemed very simple in the excellent diagrams I found on the site. But, I thought I'd broken the car! All because I thought the selector lock worked when the selector was pushed down to its maximum. Once I realised it wasn't that low things started to fall into place and I now have a good gear change. I may try again now that I have a better understanding.
What a relief that it drives rather nicely when I took it for a spin.

Eventually changed my rear springs, car has always sat low at the rear so when kyb's came out at £26 the pair i thought why not
Old springs done 40k (fitted in 2014 by a vw specialist according to paper work supplied with car) despite being complete were a good 2" shorter than new ones so quiet supprised

Today I rectified an intermittent limp mode issue where I think (after reading as much I do as possible on here) the MAF was at fault.

A quick spray with LiquidMolly MAF cleaner and all seems fine now. Time will tell though once I start commuting again.

Kind regards,

Tom

I investigated why the EML on the otherwise sweet running 1.6 FSI Sport wasn’t operating, found this non-standard upgrade from a previous owner!

Weirdly I feel much better knowing the light actually works, and I also now know how to dis and re-assemble the instrument cluster. It’s going in to my local independent this week for a cambelt change and service so I’ll get them to run the codes and take it from there, but thinking a ProBoost ECU upgrade via A2Steve might be on the cards.
