Today I.....

Today I went and made it official, I am now the proud owner of this Pine Green Tdi sport 75bhp 5 seater Black leather interior, Bose with Cd autochanger, cruise control, rear electric windows, false floor with colapsible spare wheel, foglights and mudflaps all round. This is keeper number 2, my plan is to keep this 100% original and restore back to mint condition. ?

My absolute favourite A2 colour.

I used to drive past one nearly every day in Ware, then it disappeared and appeared to be replaced with a same colour new model Fiat 500 thing. So obviously the colour was a favourite of theirs too. Had I known they were due to sell it I probably would have offered to buy it.

It's a tough call between Pine green or Dolphin grey ? I've been trying to find a Pine green Tdi for over 18 months now and couldn't believe my luck as the guy starting rattling off all the extras it had. This one's definitely been worth the wait ?
Love the pine green, polished it looks amazing in the sun! Well done fella

Well today i was meant to go and pick up a car i have wanted since i passed my test when i was 17 now 33. Disappointed couldn’t even test drive it

Triumph acclaim is my bet :D

No there can’t be any fans of the acclaim
The only claim to fame was in its name
A car of many that should and was consigned to the scrap head many years ago
I hoping for something like a Quattro couple as a reply from Ross

Far worse was the Austin Allegro... If you jacked it up wrong the rear window fell out and don't get me started on the quad steering wheel... At least the Triumph at one point had a Honda engine which meant reliability.

Well funnily enough in my FSI I have a custom steering wheel with both flat bottom and top, so not far off the Allegro wheel. It's really comfy to drive with!

when I drove an Allegro I kept missing the wheel due to it's shape. maybe I should try again. But after 40 years of round wheels it might take awhile ?

Give it a go! I am the same, 40+ years of round wheels, some the size of bicycle wheels, pre power steering!

My best mate's dad as a teenager had one and it was awful. Ran as sweet as anything whilst the bodywork rotted around it ?

The vanden plas was the one to go for! Full leather, picnic tables, big chrome grille, wood and still fell apart round you ?

I have often drWn the parallel between the Allegro (or leg over as we called it back in the day) and the flat bottom wheels that are popular ATM
It’s hard to believe that Leyland was 40 years ahead of the times
Though I have yet to see a square wheel on a modern car so maybe not
Personally I’m not a great fan of the flat bottom wheels unless it’s to gain leg clearance In which case it’s a poor cabin design in my mind
Flattening the bottom of the wheel is a poor get out of jail card for the designers

What I do find very strange is the tiny wheel in my sons Peugeot it still feels like a toy car that a young child as
It’s not a problem with modern power steering but just feels wrong having your hands so close together
