Gear Box Selector Cables, Updated.

Hello all, just wondering if anyone got anywhere with the cable replacements? My A2 has been sitting on the drive for 6 months with the cables out while I try find some more. Does anyone know of a second hand pair of cables for a 2002 1.4tdi?
I found a set by cold calling scrap dealers for my 2005 TDI - took some time & effort but achieved it without delaying getting car back from garage- cost me £192. You will know about needing TDI diesel ones, petrol wont do I understand.

thanks, yeah I have tried calling quite a few places but to no avail, also tried some dealers in Germany. Don’t want to scrap the car because I can’t find any, I’ll keep trying

Hi Rickmeister, no I haven’t actually, could you possibly send me contact details please
Audi Tradition are stocktaking right now
The Audi Tradition Online Shop is closed due to inventory from Thursday, 19.10.2023 (07:00) to Friday, 27.10.2023 (17:00). Thank you for your understanding.

When they wake up they are actually pretty good and helpful, but, they wont deliver to the UK. I have contacted them previously and they have been pretty helpful.

Another option would be to connect with the A2-freun.de German group. There is an English section. They may well have a solution as the car is still popular here and there way be an independent company producing them.

Ah great thank you, fingers crossed they can help!

As I've been asked to see if I can find anything regarding these cables on the mainland:

It looks to me like there is currently no good solution over here either other than breakers, which seems to have been the case ever since Audi ran out of OEM replacements.

Best shot might well be to ask Audi whether they can please have some more made but not sure how to go about that.

Morning,

I will write to Audi Tradition about this and a switch that is commonly needed but is OOS/NLA from the last order. They have been pretty good and helpful though a reply may take a day or two.

Edit: Message sent about these and the Alarm Button.

Nice work Rick,

It would be awesome if there was a way that they could somehow get something back into production or find another box of goodies they’ve not opened yet. Thanks for the help you doing the background Sir.

Kind regards,

Tom

Well that was pretty quick!

Good day Rick Harrison,

Thank you for your e-mail.

After checking the sources available to us, including Europe-wide, we do not have the spare parts in our stock.

Of course, we always strive to build up the stock of discontinued spare parts as quickly as possible. Therefore, please check from time to time via the search function in our Audi Tradition Shop whether the spare part you requested is in stock again.

Please understand that due to the diversity within the Audi model range it can¿t be guaranteed that every spare part will be available in our stock in the future.

If you have any further questions, please contact us via the chat. We are there for you from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Chat Audi Tradition. Best regards Audi Interaction GmbH, ein Unternehmen der AUDI AG

I guess the "strive to build up stock of discontinued parts asap" gives a glimmer of hope....

Plan B as mentioned elsewhere is to try and network via the German A2 forum... its not over yet!

Is there any way that a ball park number can be generated like the guide tubes...
10 / 20 / 40 / 100 pairs of cables ?????

Hi Rick, once again your efforts are greatly appreciated. Just to clarify a little these selector cables are not universal as there are three different part numbers for the cable pairs. This makes it harder to give a ball park figure.

I'll ping Audi again to ask if, like eBay, its possible to set up an alert if something comes back into stock.
If you post the part numbers here I can contact them again.

Good day Rick Harrison,

thank you very much for your renewed feedback.

We, Auto Union GmbH, as a subsidiary of AUDI AG, are entrusted with the worldwide supply of spare parts for our Group brands of modern and classic cars.

Some of the spare parts and accessories offered by us are residual stocks or promotional goods that cannot be constantly supplemented and are therefore only available to a limited extent or omitted.

A decision as to whether and when a spare part will be reproduced is the sole responsibility of AUDI AG.
We are happy to forward spare part numbers to AUDI AG, which could be considered for post-production. In your specific case, we have already recorded the spare part numbers automatically.

We are happy to support all customers in their search for the right spare parts.
However, we ask for your understanding that it cannot be successful in every case.

There is no notification in the Audi Tradition Shop when which spare part is available. Please check from time to time, using the search function in our Audi Tradition Shop, whether the spare part you are looking for could be added to our stock again.

If you have any further questions, please contact us via the chat. We are there for you from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Chat Audi Tradition. Best regards Audi Interaction GmbH, ein Unternehmen der AUDI AG

So I think:
Its OOS right now, Audi order the parts and have been notified that there is a need.
No alert function in AT for restocked items.
