Today I.....

It's taking a deep breath and counting to..............time.

Much sympathy in the law of Sod's ability to strike when least required.

Best wishes and hope your body shop still have some paint.

Saw this A2 promo car

Needed an NSF Outer CV boot but passed MOT with no other issues and no advisories. Bit cross with myself as I did check these last Autumn but I guess the rubbish weather we have had since then may have finished it off. Still all good for another year, the Cataclean I put in a couple of days ago obviously worked it’s magic as emissions all good

So now I can concentrate on more interesting projects. I picked up a rear axle @Ami had been holding for me and can start my refurbishment journey. I have a classic car restoration shop that can do blast cleaning very near me, so I will get in touch next week and get things underway.

Continuing my streak of poor luck - and to complete the hat trick:

Today I came out of the house to find Audrey’s front passenger tyre (which, like the Touran, is an expensive Michelin CrossClimate 2) flat with a nail embedded in it - ARRRRRRRGGGGH x2!

Luckily in the centre of the tread so repairable this time.

This is insane bad luck sir, feel your pain!

Today I fight the hazards relay connector and spring that keeps it in place. Three hours in and it is still not out. I even took out the radio and lubed the hell out of it, but no progress still 🙈

DON'T put it back in the clip. Just tuck it out of the way!

I gave up after 4,5 hrs of trying, but when I finally get that b*****d out I will definitely make sure to keep it reachable. I really fail to grasp why does it have to be put so tight in there.

I found that with my front end jacked up my steering is nice and light.
Also tackled my NS stuck handbrake/low braking efficiency issue
The adjustment wedge was stuck down, and the drum and and leading shoe badly worn. All to be replaced, with the cylinder also.
BUT I can't get the brake pipe union undone despite plenty of heat and penetrating fluid. The pipe is just twisting, attempt again tomorrow.

The first job I did, after buying The FSI a few years back was to replace the tired gas struts on the hatch. I used SGS struts, vec they are made in UK. Today I replaced those poor quality SGS units with Stabilus HV8413 units. Much better.
Mac.
CANNOT SUPPORT THIS ENOUGH, CHEAP HATCH STRUTS IS A FALSE ECONOMY (AND DAILY MISERY)

Alternatively, passat struts fit iirc, (if someone wants to source second-hand ones — a more sustainable option!)

I didn't buy SGS because they were cheap they weren't, but because they are made in England, in Derby.
The Stabilus HV8413 units are not the official A2, replacement, but feedback on here is that they are a good match, with a little more, (but not too much), push than standard.

And I speak as a person who has fit the cheap autodoc struts…

Hi Mac, my tailgate is getting a little heavy (man) and these UK made struts sound ideal. As they are a little stronger, does the tailgate pop open 'automatically' when the keyfob button is pressed? Thanks, Andy

And today I reset the MF steering wheel “straight”, it had been off a couple of degrees since fitted. I know it’s minor but it just feels better. So much so I just had to take Frank for a run to enjoy the straightness… lol
