1.4TDI Red Oil Light

Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Before I book the A2 in, can anyone confirm my suspicions regarding the repeated illumination of the red oil can warning light on my 2001 1.4TDI? For as long as I can remember, like 5 years or so, this light comes on - sometimes continuously for a week, sometimes for two minutes. It then goes away. In recent weeks it's come back again, and illuminates for a few minutes when starting up and then goes off again after a couple of miles.

Because of previous very expensive fun and games with similar warnings on another Audi vehicle, I am of course aware of the potentially serious nature of this, given it is related to oil pressure, rather than oil level. But given it has been doing it intermittently for so long, can I assume its a sensor issue? My guess is if it was anything more serious, the car would have died by now. Famous last words...

I'm in the mood to getting it sorted now as the loud beep is driving me crazy.

Similar recent intermittent issues with the temperature gauge warning symbol, which I understand to be the coolant level.

Outside of that, the car is regularly serviced, recent cambelt etc, and just keeps going without arguing at 100k miles. Any advice or thoughts welcome.

Have you had the car scanned with VCDS?

That should help pinpoint the causes.

A sensor failure is likely but it could be low oil pressure that varies from time to time.
Dies an oil and filter change remive / reduce the warnings?

The coolant warning could just be a coincidence but I prefer to check.

So try and get it scanned before you start spending on sensors etc.

Thanks for that Steve. I'm not at all handy with motors, so will book it in to my local specialist and see what's what.

The issue really does come and go without warning, regardless of recent service.

I think the best place for you to take it in that area would be Tony at A2 Cars, you need an Audi A2 specialist ideally.

Oops, just checked the map, my Geography is not great, but I still suggest a trip to A2 Cars.
Normally I wouldn't suggest such a long trip with a possible oil pressure problem but you say it has been like it for a long time.
