1.6 FSI Exhaust

Hi

My Exhaust, (back box) needs to be replaced. A friendly forum member, who could be a potential life saver, has agreed to lend a helping hand. Just in case things don’t go to plan, my question is would a 1.4 petrol, (with a 42ltr fuel tank) fit a 1.6 petrol, (with a 42ltr fuel tank). They are so much cheaper and more widely available.

Any help / advice much appreciated

Kindest Regards

I don't think 1.4 box would fit-

when I replaced mine I tried to find an OEM / alternatvie to the Genuine part but the back box is fitted with a pressure release type valve on the 1.6 that the 1.4 doesn't have. Maybe 1.4 would physically fit and car would run but I'm not sure of effect on performance.

I've heard the fsi has it's own special exhaust that only Audi produce. I wouldn't like to imagine what it would cost form Audi to replace. There is a German company that can make a stainless one for the fsi apparently. I'll try to find the link.

Not a chance I'm paying £350ish for a back box, that’s half the value AvailableCar offered me, without even seeing the car. Obviously I said NO to that as well.

Well it's in the garage at the moment having the gasket fixed that connects Pt2 to Pt3 in the picture below, (sounds awful at the moment). Then the centre silencer, (Pt4) needs a sleeve around it as that’s going in the centre. This should bide me a bit of time to sort the back box out, as it’s only got a tiny hole in it next to the feed pipe, (not the tail pipe).

Does anyone know the cost of a full system for the fsi out of curiosity? A2 exhausts seem to be very long lasting to give them credit, but I dread the day I need to start changing bits on mine, I think my flexi has seen better days...

Had mine done at longlife in leeds, brilliant quality and service, Mid sport option chosen which is fine in town and on motorway but has a nice rasp when giving the beans, seems more peppy as well

I think 6stings should donate his spare Remus back box :)

I would be happy to, sinless, but the Remus is not the spare, the original rear silencer is a spare one.
I run with the Remus and have absolutely no problem with it.
This silencer, originally made for 1.4, as I understand, both petrol and TDI, is almost the same size as the 1.6 FSI silencer.
Maybe they made a special silencer for FSI, but this one fits like a glove, sounds the same and works like a clockwork.

I did the measuring and compared the 1.6 FSI and Remus silencers, I too was confused with the warnings about the size of 1.4 silencer and that it wouldn't fit 42l tank. Well, I fitted the Remus, didn't I?
Do the measuring and check if my measuring helps, it's still in the Projekt Zwo thread somewhere.

By the way, there was one lovely A2 1.4 driving in front of me not long ago in Stavanger, with the Remus Fox sticker and the twin exhaust pipe on the left side. The owner made a nicely shaped cut for it, I really liked how he/she did it. I think it was one of the recent Remus replacements.

the bn pipes complete dual system is around €550 if I remember correctly; that's stainless, fits the FSI but is not type-approved (2dB too much I think). Then again, if you guys can do custom systems, it would be a decent alternative.

It's looking like I'm gonna need mid to rear. Price so far for a custom s/s is £274.99 inc VAT & fitting.

Ahh that's the company, BN. I dropped them an email, and they said the same as above.
