I just wanted to share my recent experience of Tony's expertise in attending to my car's litany of niggles woes at his new venture, A2 Cars.
As I have written recently on the forum, my car has been feeling increasingly arthritic - full of creaks, rattles and gremlins, and with an nagging sense in the back of my head that it "just wasn't right" performance-wise. Certainly MPG has been poor, and a few things were in need of genuine attention.
I presented Tony with a long snagging list and also a mod or two to undertake - always got to have a mod project after all!
Last week I drove up to Milton Keynes, visited A2 Cars in their new workshop and left my little alu pal in Tony's care. I'm very pleased to report that my car has returned feeling like new, and it's gone a long way to restoring my mojo for this little car.
Tony managed to track down and silence the major internal trim rattles, and in diagnosing one rather loud one (which always occurred at a certain trigger RPM/load), actually discovered the cause was two failed engine mounts! Replacing those has improved the smoothness/NVH of the car immeasurably it has to be said, and I can't help but wonder how long they've been shot... My hand brake now works, as does my twin-tone horn which now speaks with both notes again (and is now re-positioned inside the engine bay to keep it safe from the elements!). My OpenSky, which although was completely replaced by Worthing Audi just 18months ago had already become extremely recalcitrant when being asked to open (somtimes the rear panel wouldn't open at all), it has been fully serviced and is now silky smooth in operation again. My boot now opens during warm days. I have a new, auto-dimming interior mirror (mod!). After an extensive engine de-grease, we have a suitable candidate for the source of a niggling oil leak - probably the EGR valve. Finally, Tony discovered that not only was the fuel temperature sensor wiring loom broken, but that the intercooler hose was failing - both will not doubt have caused my drop off of performance and MPG.
I have to say Tony's quality of work and attention to detail are second to none. He treats the cars that come to him as if they were his own and I would strongly recommend A2 Cars to anyone looking to give their A2 a bit of TLC.
I'll no doubt be returning in the not too distant to stem the oil leak and see what other bits of TLC can be lavished on my A2.
