20 year old FSI MPG

We did a couple back to back weekend runs to Lincolnshire in our 20 year old FSI (86k on the clock) as our family bus is currently off the road. First time it’s been on such a long journey for us - I made sure the AA membership cover was adequate in case hut it did not miss a beat and we were so impressed with the fuel economy. The first weekend run we averaged 49.6 MPG over 320 miles and the second weekend we averaged 49.7 MPG over 360 miles fully laden with four people and some bags. We travelled mainly A1 but with some slower roads mixed in. Looking at some older threads from 2006 on FSI mpg, owners were reporting 50 MPG on motorway runs and so for the car to still be achieving they 20 years on and with 86k on the clock seems incredible to me. I wonder whether the MPG is boosted by the proboost ECU or whether other FSI owners experience similar economy?

I always get upper forties on a long fast run. Average, over my four years ownership is 46 mpg.
Mine's only nineteen, but into it's twentieth year.

When my wife has driven the FSi over longer distances I am staggred at the fuel economy/range, easily 50mpg, but things change when i drive it locally!

Best I've seen from a single tank was nearly 52 mpg, and that was driving at an indicated 70-75 when on the motorway. I don't normally get that though, the typical amount seems to be 42 - 45 but that's in far from ideal conditions. My mileage is 157.5k now.

I find that the mpg on the DIS is at a maximum, when road speed is between 70 & 80 mph.
This is logical as the torque and power curves are both nearing their peak at 3,500 - 4,000 rpm.
Coincidentally, (or not), this matches the motorway max speed across most of Europe.
The DIS mpg is pretty accurate, as the long term average on the DIS is almost exactly the same as mine, calculated from fuel used and mileage during my four and a bit years of stewardship.
