All Audis come with 3 year warranty, 2years manufacturers and 1 year dealer`s. Could somebody elaborate on what happens in year 3? Is dealers warranty any different to Audis own?

Peter,
All Audi's have a 3 year Audi Centre warranty against mechanical defect.
Audi warrants that it will rectify, free of charge defects in materials and workmanship for a period of up to 3 years or 60,000 miles from the date of delivery or first registration, whichever occurs first.

The 3 year Audi warranty comprises the manufacturer's unlimited mileage warranty in the first 2 years, plus a full mechanical and electrical warranty, to the same level of cover in the third year up to a mileage limit of 60,000 miles. A top up extension to four years and or unlimited mileage can be purchased on request from your Audi Centre.

You may take your car to any Audi Centre or Audi Authorised Repairer.

Provided your Audi was first registered by an authorised Audi Centre in the UK and has been subsequently serviced and repaired in accordance with the Manufacturer's instructions, you are eligible for inclusion in the 3 year Audi Warranty. This gives additional cover for the third year to a total of 60,000 miles from first registration, or the anniversary of the third year, whichever occurs first. The cover includes the cost of replacement parts and labour for faults arising as a result of a manufacturing defect.

It appears dealer warranty is no different to Manufacturer's as Audi clearly state in their literature that it is the same level of cover.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. My querry follows my step fathers break down while on hols in France. Citroen warrany is 1 year man + 2y dealers. His C3 needed new starter motor and bingo £80 for the part + £80 for towing + 2 extra nights in France. Obviously Citroen warranty is different from Audis.

I believe the warrenty is even more complicated than Shaf says. For instance steering alignment seems to be guaranteed for 10000km. If there is a problem with the steering alignment you are expexted to notice it within that mileage. After that it could be suggested you upset the alignment yourself by, for instance driving into potholes or up kerbs.

On a website in Germany (where there is a 2-year warrenty) there is lots of good information on the VW Golf IV. It says (translated):
"Since 01.01.2002 there has been a legally prescribed 2-year responsibility for faults in parts ("Sachmangelhaftung.") In addition the requirement to have the car serviced by a VW agent has been dropped. Since this time the VW guarantee has been ended: just the legal requirement remains. With this exception: within the first 6 months the seller must rectify all faults without charge. After that the customer has to prove that the manufacturer is repsonsible for the fault. VW does not insist on this burden of proof, ie for two years all faults will be repaired. But this is a "Kulanzregelung" (I think this is a proportional contribution to the cost) and not legally enforcable."

VW's attitude to this is said to vary: they are said to be more open to a claim for Kulanzreglung for a safety-related issue and for known problems like electric window faults(on Golfs) and certain camshaft-belt failures (on Golfs), and for a failure of these parts they have detailed rulings on what they will pay. For broken electric windows, for instance, they pay 100% of the cost up to 3 years and 50% up to 5 years.
In Germany the VW and Audi warrenty was increased from 1 year to 2 years following some Europe-wide directive. The German site says VW is now much less generous than it was about paying part of the cost of repairs after the formal guarantee ends.
