Been driving my A2 since last Sat.
When the fuel tank is full it was doing 42ish mpg but when there is only a quarter of fuel left, it show only 38mpg ie drop of 4mpg!!

Is that normal?

Also I was so happy after I done 100miles the trip computer show there is another 320miles before refueling !!! But after half the tank is gone it showing less and less!!! I think one full tank will do around 320miles. Just like my previous car Alfa 147 1.6lusso except the tank is smaller here!!!

One reason might be that the fuel tank is an irregular shape but the fuel gauge uses a linear level detection device. i.e. more area in the top half of the tank than the bottom half.

Never actually seen an A2 tank though - just a stab in the dark.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

Bryan,

Our 1.4 SE petrol averages about 36MPG. The car is heavy, with open-sky and CC, and most journeys are short (less than 5 miles).

When we drove to Scotland in our first A2, we saw 50MPG on the motorways.

Is it the way I drive?! My recently departed 1.4 SE petrol (fully loaded with all Options) used to give me 36mpg regularly on mostly long-distance motorway journeys of over 80 miles at outside lane speeds.....(bought at 44k miles, sold back at 73k) The new 1.6 FSI Sport (bought at 29k miles; also fully loaded) gave me 35+ on the first tankfull of Optimax, but had to fill with ordinary high-octane lead-free (98) for second tankful. Then it dropped slowly to 33.8 mpg over that tankful. latest tankful is supermarket ordinary leadfree (95?) and mpg is still dropping!! Driving style same as before- 1.6 seems slightly, only slightly faster than 1,4, is on bigger wheels and is also more 'fidgetty' at speed. Both cars have had the same first owner, and then the same me. Will keep all informed as the miles build in the 'new' one.

This is a common topic, over my now 77000 miles in my 1.4 petrol A2 I have averaged around 45mpg. Worst ever is 40mpg and best was near 55mpg. Seemed to be most ecconomical around 35-55000 miles. 55mpg was in the hot summer last year though which helps.

Just topped up my 1.4 Tdi (75) for the first time. Mixed motorway, round town and got 60mpg. I am beginning to love this car. My old Volvo did 26 to the gallon on a good day and 23 most of the time.

I am on the 3rd tanks of Optimax since I've got the car! It's doing 39ish mpg mostly London town driving. I feel the car is handling better or maybe I am used to driving it now! It feel less heavy then the Alfa but still quite stable on the road. Really like that little punch on 3rd and 4th gear althougth the engine doesn't sound as nice as the Alfa 147!

I may drive like an old lady or something, but I drove 216 miles to Bridgend yesterday, and back again on a tank of diesel, with fuel to spare. It worked out at just over 70MPG, almost all of it at motorway speeds (70+) but without the aircon etc working, which I am told can take 5mpg off if you use them all the time.
