600 miles from a tank???

I'm now 95%+ sure that it's going to be damned hard to get 600kms from a 34l tank. I've just done two seperate trips where the 500km mark has seen the light come on (that translates to under 6l/100, so around 48mpg) and though FIS has told me "750km!" - yeah, right, that 500 is a realistic limit. That's with minimal climate usage (auto, 21C, freshly charged with gas, 16C outside), lights where necessary, wipers if needed... no stereo etc and 80 or 100 limits with 50kms of motorway.

average speeds are around 60km/h, and the long term average is around 6.2l/100, over around 10k kms.

Managed 600 miles out of a tank for the first time yesterday ;)

So happy as its only the smaller 34 litre tank.

It's being helped by this warm weather and the fact my new commute means I crawl along at around 60 mph there and back each day.

When i filled it yesterday I managed to get 34 litres in as well by venting the tank so don't think I can push it any further than this.

I don't post here often, more of a lurker but thought I'd mention that I managed to get my best MPG on a 155 mile round trip to Leicester on Saturday.

Just me in the car but boot fully loaded with my work gear, which I recon isn't far off the weight of an adult.

Car is a standard 1.4 TDi, 51 plate. A mixture of roads but approx 60% travelled on the motorway where I ranged from 55-65mph

I don't have DIS so this was a manual calc, should have the Torque app running in the next couple of days...

61.1mpg

Pretty pleasing, sure I could do better but the biblical rain and thunder on the return journey was a little off putting!

My MPG has been pretty poor for a few months now, but after a recent trip to A2 Motors discovered my fuel temperature sender wiring was broken, it's definitely on the up again. DIS range was saying 700 miles left after having driven 80 miles already, and now I've got to 3/4 full indicated with 210miles logged so far. Will be keeping an eye on this tank, but feels like my MPG is well restored!

My all time best has been 80.4 mpg. On average I get mid sixties which increases to mid seventies on a motorway run.
The car is 13 yrs old with 137000 on the clock

A couple of years ago, best of 87, and most summer tanks in the low 80s, but in the last couple of years I've mostly been in the upper 70s (summer) and upper-60s/low-70s (winter). Not sure how to check what the fuel temp reading is.

Tony had his head buried in my engine bay and noticed a couple of busted wires...

That would be a great find!!!

It would almost be as good as getting another remap for free to get back lost power like that.

Fingers crossed for you that this will breathe fresh life into your A2. Not to mention a healthy increase in MPG.

Oh I tell you, the car feels so much more like itself again since visiting A2 Cars - amazing the difference a simple fuel temperature sender fault makes to the performance! And also it turns out two of the main engine mounts were totally shot - replaced those and it really does feel like a much more solid, civilized, smooth motor car.

Not quite 600 miles from this tank as I bottled it when the Klaxon of Death went off, but 555 miles and according to Fuelly, 66.6MPG for the tank. That's definitely much more like the A2's frugality that I know and love.
