BMW is soon to launch a new MPV based 1 series, Merc will be launching the new A class and a new B class (Zafira sized) and what is Audi doing? Abondoning the biggest single growing sector in the motor industry... they have a big customer base already (US!) and surely that counts for something!

So what if VW want us to buy a SEAT then an Audi and move up like that... until we buy our first Lamborghini... For most people life just does not always work like that...

So Mr Audi how about making that beautiful new SEAT Altea in an Audi version as well? Seal the bonnet, add a service flap as we know it and give it proper rear door handles and voila: the new Audi A2 mark 2!!! Why give the entire market to Merc and BMW on a plate?

Johann,

Well said. I mentioned in an old thread that the decision was never final. I know that various VW/AUDI senior people already stated the A2 wouldn't be replaced, however about a year ago a little bird told me that some major companies had started making tenders for the all new Sub-A class vehicle for VW, and included in the volumes was a figure for an AUDI based vehicle - potential A2 replacement.
The thing about the auto industry however, is that things are never final - lead times are so compressed now, due to common platforms, manufacturers like VW only need about 24 months from 'OK' to 'SOP'.

Nicely done photoshopping, Johann!

But....even in this form I would not choose to drive the A2v2, simply because it would look way too much like the Altea! Why drive and pay for a car that everyone mistakes for a Seat?
I like the unique look of the A2. And I must admit, I like the Altea too, just the way it is.
So where is the uniqueness in the A2v2? Not in the bodywork. It would not even me Aluminium this way. And not in the engine, because it would be one of those boring VAG units again. So maybe the interior? But that would not suffice for me...

Don't get me wrong: I definately would like to see a follow-up to the current A2, but it should not be a rip-off of another VAG model. No thank you.

(P.S. This week my A2 got offended in the worst thinkable way. An elderly man, who turned out to drive a Toyota Yaris, approached me to ask: "does you car drive nicely? Wouldn't you have preferred the S3 instead?". The S3 suggestion suprised me, so I continued to talk to the man. Turned out he thought my car was a Citroen C2 and that he meant a C3 as 'better car'. Noooooo!.....hope it was due to the fact that he was over 60 and that it was dark!)

Johann

I've read that production Altea's will have the standard rear door handles and not those 'a la Alfa 156'. But will keep to parked windscreen wipers in the A pillar.

I would hope that the VAG group keep away from body sharing (like the Vauxhall Agila and Suzuki thing) and don't start sharing otherwise the brands will just be too confusing.

But surely the bonnet that can't open is enough?!!! heheeh

I know what you guys are saying... and if you look at how VW's platform sharing is working at the moment you will NEVER ever see the Altea with Audi badges... my point was that Audi should seriously look at replacing the A2 as they have the basics already...

We will never get another A2 as bespoke as the current one. Making it out of aluminium was just too costly... BUT I maintain it would have made far better economic sense had the car been a few inches wider (for 5 seats) and a few inches longer - BUT for same price. Then people wouldhave bought as many of them as the A-class. As it stands you pay way too much for the metal you get. But then personally that is why I like the car even more as they are sooo rare... so win a bit and loose a bit...

That rarity is not something car companies want. Even Porsche wants to sell as many Boxsters as they can make... they don't care for individuality. So our A2 being rare was just a nice fluke (for us).

So the the A2v2: will be something far more mass market and a direct competitor for Merc's new A or B-class I should think. Made of steel and sitting on a shortened Golf/A3 platform. Polo's too small I think to compete with new A-class/BMW 1 series Estate. It won't look anything like the Altea but I would bet the proportions are about right for an A2v2. Especially the 3rd link I posted above - the side view. Squint your eyes and you can easily see that being an A2v2...

Kaine: I do so hope your spies are right and that Audi will do one!!!

P.S. However much better than what I could do!!!

Was it drawn on a post-it note?!!!

A bit of a Honda Jazz influence at the front maybe?

Johann - Great photos (the ones on the first post, not the post-it note).
The amazing thing is, if was branded as an Audi and not SEAT, despite being the same car, I really would be tempted!

BUT SEAT have just axed the Arosa.
Does not look too good.

NEVER attempt a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
Soon to be ex-A2 owner - but nevertheless extremely satisfied with my experience
