If its anything like the galaxy there is a small glass lense in the middle at the bottom.

The black line on the drivers side mirror is to show where the convex bend in the glass is. This is to try and eliminate the blindspot in the mirror.
If the auto-dipping rear view mirror is the same as in the Passat, it will have a small clear looking sensor (similar to an LED) moulded into the mirror casing just below the glass itself.
Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
