Aero parts; definitive list

Would the front winglets fit up onto the front of the rear arch?

Seen some saab 900's with a flap to the front of the rear wheel therefore channeling the air to the centre underneath again, anyone tried it?

I dont think they would be very effective as whilst the front winglets do serve an aerodynamic purpose they dont do that much without the centre tunnel spoiler which you wouldn't be able to fit on the rear. The main purpose of the winglets is to keep the brakes dry at high speeds as the 1.6FSI was more powerful and could do 125mph plus and as the rear brakes don't do much it wouldnt help this either really!

If you look at the shaping of the side skirt in front of the rear wheel arch it is clearly formed to deflect air movement around the wheel. If there was any benefit from rear wheel arch winglets I am sure Audi would have developed them as part of the 3L spec. I personally believe there is more to be gained by filling in/smoothing over more of the underside of the car especially at the rear.

Yep I read what your all saying I was thinking of them protecting the Discs as this set has last me 3 years,Not much wear as you say but rusted up probably due to road scree and rain.
They will fail this Mot in Feb as they will be beyond serviceable.
Will order and see.
Again it would deflect to the under middle of the car if it works

I doubt it will make any difference, they will still get wet and rust is usually due to lack of use which is often a problem with rear discs. my 944 rear discs were shot after 1 year due to low mileage and intermittent use.

i bought the centre tunnel cover and winglets this morning. I managed to fit the winglets no problem but when it came to the centre tunnel cover i hit problems. the first three nuts holding the exhaust heat shield came off no probs but the last three sheared on me. ive left it off for now until i can think of some other way to secure it, fortunately the heat shield doesnt rattle (as i first feared). the same thing happened when i removed the fuel filter heat shield earlier in the year and it seems no amount of wd-40 helps on these type of nuts., infact these didnt even have any signs of rust and still sheared.

Hi Rob when i did this mod i also encountered a couple of sheared fixings. The way i got over this was to get the broken piece out of the nut and re fix upside down--this has been OK on my car now for a couple of years.i will also agree that wd40 doesn't really help in preventing them shearing. They seam to be an alloy and very soft.Hope this helps mike

Hey Mike in the snow that has come down hows your sub frame spoiler holding out?, when i came back from my holiday last week i arrived back into Grimsby to find the remains of the large amount of snow that we got and the centre spoiler was giving the snow a good scrapping (not had the chance to get under to have a look)

I'm confused. Does this comment mean that the winglets are standard equipment on a 1.6FSI or are you saying this is just the main reason that you personally would fit them?

On the subject of stopping your brake discs corroding on a low usage car. I'm told that it helps to give them a really good workout every once in a while. As in do some hard braking at high speeds to get some heat into them. I'm not talking about doing an emergency stop from 100mph. Just find a quiet back road and do a few rapid drops from 60 to 30ish. Supposedly, they clean up a lot quicker and better when warm than simply pootling between the shops and back will do for them.

They are standard on the 1.6 FSI but weren't available even as an option on any of the others as they could not do in excess of 120mph whereas the FSI could

I think winglets are the only aero mod on the fsi but i may be wrong, the 1.2tdi has exhaust covers and splitter underneath aswell. The fsi goes 125mph so is pretty fast in comparison with the 107 of the 1.4tdi

The 1.6 fsi also shares the larger tailgate spoiler with the 1.2 tdi

According to the parts catalogue, all A2s share the same mirror mounts and shells, so there would appear to be no difference from the 1.2TDi to any other A2.

Cheers,
