Alarm going off

Just noticed that the alarm is going off several times overnight. I'll try the trick of sticking something on the service flap to ensure that the sensor button is properly shut - it does look as if the service flap isn't fully flush with the bodywork. I'll report back.
The lights are flashing but the alarm itself is really quiet - is there a battery in it or something that needs replacing? Car is now 23 year old.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

A scan would tell you what's triggering the alarm.
Yed, battery in the sounder is dying. Don't leave it, as it will corrode and leak damaging the pcb. The battery can be replaced, but it's not easy.
Mac.
