Alarm

I went to the car today and opened it with the key. After about 15 seconds when sitting inside the alarm and hazards came on. I turned them of buy starting the car with the key. I tried to do this again later but could not get the alrm to activate in the same way? Can someone tell me if it should or should not do this?

All this was done without the use of remote.

Happened to me once in the car park of an Audi dealer. According to the drivers handbook, if the doors are opened with the key and the engine is not started at once, the rather pathetic alarm goes off. Needless to say, no-one took any notice of the alarm.
