I think that you'll find that only electrical faults will give rise to fault codes, not physical faults. It's quite a big job to remove injectors, i.e. camshaft, cam belt out etc but it will give you the opportunity to replace some well-worn camshaft shells (particularly the upper ones)!Injectors? No fault codes so I assumed not.
I'm working on the drive, mechanical work as extensive as that will have to wait until I create garage space. Even if the car has to be laid up waiting.I think that you'll find that only electrical faults will give rise to fault codes, not physical faults. Yes, because of the upward pressure on the cam from the injectors. Even if you use all the correct oils and at the correct service intervals! It's the cam shaft shells that wear? Just now looking at the cam and thinking it looks very good for 170k miles.
Will do, that is the reason the EGR valve is off (perhaps not caught in the pictures). That way I can get a torque wrench over the rear screws.Make sure you fit the cam cover gasket correctly according to the manual...
I can re-thread it but I need the head off first. They will need drilling out and at least 2D coiling. I'll probably do them all.Ahh balls!! Do you think it can be re-threaded?
I've got a good head here with 117k if you need one.
? I knew you would say that. Exactly what I will do, but it will all have to wait.At least it will give you the opportunity to change the camshaft shells!

Hi phil,@RAB those shells are big b****rs, never seen them so big before. If I have to replace injectors it will be interesting to see how large and worn they are.
Today's progress, if nothing else I will have fixed a long standing oil leak. I bodged it several years ago with engine silicone:

I think I see what I’m looking at. It has worn through two coatings and is wearing out the white metal? Still very smooth though.
