Another FSI Misfire.....

Well not had her long and I haven't managed to get to the bottom of a very annoying hesitation, had various codes thrown up along the way, but the main one the comes back is the 17912.

She has a terrible hesitation at low revs turning into junctions roundabouts etc, but once a little up the revs is fine, there is also a louder intake type noise coming from the offside front.

When I first got it 14th February it had three codes logged

17912 - intake air system leak
18322 - fixed brake light switch
17413 - torque difference cylinder 2, limit value exceeded

I cleared these and one week later I had

17912 - intake air system leak
16955 -
16395 -

It was then serviced and we found a damaged intake pipe underneath and the EGR pipe had a split in it, these were all fixed

Then on the 24th March I had

17912 - intake air system leak
17413 - torque difference cylinder 2, limit value exceeded
16804 - catalyst bank 1, efficiency below threshold

Clearded these and have been using it a bit and then on the 31st March I got

16804 - catalyst bank 1, efficiency below threshold

Since then it has not thrown any codes up, still always drives the same with the hesitation.

I then noticed that there was damage to the wiring on the third coil pack not a lot but it could have shorted I guess or got the hump if it got wet?

Today I insulated each one separately and replaced that coil as I had a new one and figure it may have got damaged?

I have cleaned up the earth points on the top of the engine and behind the headlight and I read this on another thread.

I then found that the piece where the oil filler cap goes in seemed loose and when the engine was running I could hear it taking in air and causing idle to hunt a little if I moved it, there is also small traces of oil under it, could this be part of my problem? Would this move under normal driving conditions?

Does seem odd and how do I fix it?

I have tried searching for similar problems before posting but I am now stuck and wish it was fixed as we love this car but this problem is really trying our patience and my wife doesn't like driving it like this.

Cheers in advance

Hi, sorry i cant really help although is there water dropping onto the coil as seen in the pic?

Have you checked to make sure that the battery connections are all tight. Even under the black plastic covers?

Yep I dried off all the water that was a couple of days ago took bonnet off and it instantly rained! I'm guessing it's normally dry under there?

Will check the battery connections but I think they were fine last time I looked

A liberal spray of WD40 can combat a little moisture like that. It can drive way water to some extent and can waterproof the HT leads for future protection.

From the link i posted, it 'may' be the CAT

Yeah I had found that before when searching, the only thing is they said they got an EML on and I have nothing, does this count for anything?

If the cat was up the creek could it also sound like a blowing exhaust I may take it to my exhaust specialist in the morning

Well since doing all the above on Monday I have driven 50 miles without the hesitation?

Not counting my chickens yet, but who knows if it was the two earth points being cleaned or insulating the wires on the coil pack that were damaged or changing that one coil?

Or reseating the oil filler neck? But I'm still not happy with that, can anyone confirm if there's does what mine does in the video? Can I adjust it or do I need a new one? How does it come off?

It shouldnt move like that. I will double check mine for you.

My misfire has disappeared since filling up with Tesco Momentum and a bottle of Redex Injector Cleaner.

Maybe drop a bottle in a full tank for good luck?

You just turn the whole filler to the left a little and pull it up, it should click out of it's stopper, no worries, you can't break anything.
Unplug the breather pipe on the left first, of course.

Cheers I will look at this later I did read that I might be able to adjust something to make it sit a little tighter.
