Another Timmus Road Trip: Requests Welcome

By the way, the aim is to put the camera in the passenger side soor mirrorunit, pointing down.

That way when I am parking I can see how close to the kerb I am so that I can protect my wheels!

I've had similar ideas Steve, but wondered if it would be possible to have more than one camera with a selector switch to activate the appropriate display

Today I had a visit from Timmus - what an incredible chap Tom is! His knowledge, dedication, attention to detail and all round helpfulness is second to none - I cant recommend him highly enough.

Hi Tom

A bit late in replying to this thread. I got to meet Tom for a bit longer than the last time, and he upgraded my FSI to DIS. His attention to detail is great, and it's really good that there are skilled people with a wealth of knowledge about these little cars. Thoroughly recommend to anyone thinking of doing some upgrades. Mine is slowly building it's spec up.

I had a visit from Tom on Friday. I think that it's so enjoyable to meet-up, I'd be paying him for just a social visit! LOL! Since his visit, I've been driving my A2 with a smile on my face! Why, you might ask? Well I've paid two visits in the past to "Stealth Racing" because my gear-change was very difficult and obstructive, especially when cold and into first-gear. In spite of those visits (which were only for that reason), it's always been that way, for a long, long time. Along comes Tom with a special Audi tool which only cost ~£2. ( It is basically a simple slightly cranked bar of a critical diameter) It only took him a few minutes but the improvement has been astonishing! Even from cold, it's now possible to engage 1st without the obstruction! THAT'S why I'm smiling! To think how long I've put up with that inferior gear-change .... all those miles! Oh well .....

So I've replaced the right door switch using this guide http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?13246-How-to-replace-rear-door-micro-switch and still have the same problem.

What can I try next? Maybe 'The Timmus Touch' is needed.

What a busy but enjoyable week it's been! I got home late on Friday night and have spent the weekend so far preparing for a big job near Leeds beginning on Monday. However, no A2 marathon is complete without a summary post, so here goes...

I started at home in Lancaster and proceeded to visit...
Wolverhampton
Birmingham
Cambridge
Harlow
Greenwich
Staines
Woodford
Ashford
Maidstone
Holborn
Harlow (again!)
Clapham
Brackley
Coalville
Neston
Prestatyn
Liverpool

Many thanks to all those I visited; it was a pleasure seeing old faces and making new acquaintances. I'd like to show my gratitude to everyone for being flexible and making the logistics of such a long chain possible. Apologies to the few people for whom this trip didn't work out. Rest assured, there'll be a next time!

Almost every stop was to work on an A2, though I also made a few other personal and business calls. There is, however, no contest for the most awesome location of work over the past week...

:D

Once again, many thanks to everyone who made my trip so pleasant. Until next time!

Many thanks for the vote of confidence, and the alliteration. :)

I notice your scan results mention both the rear doors. The locks will continue to cycle when you turn the key in the ignition until all microswitch faults are resolved. If you get fed up with the problem or can't seem to solve it, I am, of course, more than happy to assist. Just let me know.

Hi Tom ... I spoke to Johnmed from Warrington ... Thanks Graham

HI Graham,

I've sent you a private message.

Cheers,

Tom

Timmus when your next on you're travels, put me down for a visit. I think she needs 'The Timmus Touch' :)

Hi Tom. Tried to PM you but I think your mailbox is full.

Ah, thank you. Wouldn't it be nice if the forum software alerted you to this problem. Sorry to all those who might have tried to send me a PM over the last few days. I've now cleared some space and will start replying to the backlog. :)

Cheers,

Tom

I paid Tom a visit yesterday and have nothing but praise for his attention to detail and dogged determination to get the job done right.

Pre arranged jobs were retro fitting DIS, cruise control, and MFSW plus a decent list of small jobs that needed sorting to bring the car somewhere near where I wanted it. These were all done in the manner to which I expected given the glowing reports of other members but the next part is where glowing praise is really due.

My car had an annoying rattle coming from (I thought) the steering column or the instrument cluster. After the retro fitting was done the rattle was still evident in the road test and I could tell it was bugging Tom more than me.

Anyway where most people would have walked away and put it down to being "one of those things", not with Tom. He proceeded to dismantle the car again (by now we are talking 4pm and a full day of work already done).

Needless to say that an hour or so later and after much head scratching the rattle is now gone. Now that's what I call attention to detail.

In conclusion Tom is an absolute gent and goes way beyond the call of duty to do a perfect job. I am one seriously satisfied customer and will be making the journey for more mods in the future.

Many thanks Jeff for the positive feedback. I'm pleased you're so delighted.

My car had an annoying rattle coming from (I thought) the steering column or the instrument cluster. After the retro fitting was done the rattle was still evident in the road test and I could tell it was bugging Tom more than me...

I was primed to look for the source of a rattle before I started working on the car, but found nothing amiss as I dismantled the appropriate areas of the interior to fit the upgrades. I could tell that the instrument cluster had been taken out previously due to trim pieces not being seated properly, so I figured I'd probably cure the rattle simply by putting things back together properly. However, when we took the car out for a test drive, I heard the rattle with my own ears. It sounded to me like it was coming from underneath the very front of the dash, near where the G263 sensor is located. If Jeff's car was my car, I wouldn't have been able to live with it, so I started the hunt. Eventually I found that a bolt between the master brake cylinder and the back of the windscreen wiper motor was loose, causing a metallic rattling sound to be conducted into the interior.
What a difference such things make. A single rattle like that can give you the feeling that your entire car is falling to bits. Once the rattle was gone, Jeff didn't care about having cruise, DIS and MFSW. The biggest upgrade seemed to be driving along in comparative silence! :)

See you again at the Yorkshire social, Jeff.

Cheers,

Tom
