Any owners in Newcastle upon Tyne?

Not much use to you immediately but I'm in Corbridge and have a Tdi 90. Will be taxing for beginning of Feb if you want to have drive to compare.

I'm going to have a look at a Silver one next week. It has 144k with 'some' service history. It's with its 2nd owner & he 'believes' the cam belt has been changed. Owner isn't sure if it's a 75 or 90 bhp though. It's an 02 so I'm assuming it's a 75?
He wants £1450 ono. The mot is due this August. New'sh tyres with only a few 'age related' marks.
I'm no mechanic so I'd appreciate any advice as to what to look for & be aware of. Many thanks. :)

I'll translate for you

'some' service history means one or two stamps if your lucky
'believes' the cambelt has been done means it hasn't
few 'age related marks' means scuffs on bumper corners and wheel arches
an 02 plate its definately a 75

For £1450 i'd widen your search. You can get a better car than that for £1450. Its only saving grace is that its only had two owners but if neither have serviced it or looked after it then that makes little difference.

I don't fancy travelling all over the country only to be disappointed.
I'll have to if local one's are not suitable. If I can get this for nearer £1k'ish, it leaves me some spare to get things done like the timing belt for example.
What's the average cost of the belt & water pump change?

Between £250 and £350 depending on part quality and labour costs.
 
The A2 I saw today was a Dog!
I'm off to Lancashire to view one with full service history. You get what you pay for so watch this space.
