Any recommendations for a garage nr Didsbury?

Hi all

My daughter now has one of our fleet of A2s over in Didsbury - it is coming up for an MOT and service with no apparent problems.

She isn't keen to trail down to WOM if not much needs doing and wondered if anyone could recommend a garage in Didsbury (South Manc).

Yes, I know, should prob just get down to WOM, but I thought worth asking!

Your daughter needs to understand that the A2 is an elderly car that requires specialist informed checking over ahead of its annual MOT. WOM is within reach of Didsbury, so there really is no other alternative.

Thanks both for your replies

Duly passed on, she’s still still interested in any other more local ‘good enough’ options…but well aware of the skills available down at WOM where the car has sometimes been before when significant fettling needed

The consequences of the A2 getting into the wrong hands do not bear contemplation.

To save tears and gnashing of teeth, proceed to WOM. Ask nicely and I believe loan cars are available.

I think we need to be careful in creating this illusion that A2's need specialist garages to work on them.

If you want a good reliable garage who are very knowledgeable in this model then go to WOM or B&F Autos, but if you are finding that local garages don't know how to work on an A2 then that's more a failing of the skills of the garage rather than the model.

The 1.4 mpi and TDI use some of the most simplistic engines of cars on the road today. Yes the FSI is a little more complicated and that's mainly due to too many sensors, but if you find a garage is unable to work on the A2 then you need to find a better garage.

By comparison with modern cars, the A2 should be a walk in the park for any decent mechanic.

I think your phrase "the A2 should be a walk in the park for any decent mechanic" says it all. I agree totally.
Sadly I find there are very few decent mechanics about now. Once you find one hang on to him/her like grim death!

Agreed. Unfortunately it’s a bit of a dying trade, why would any youngster train themselves on mechanics when everything is going electric.

Thanks all for your collective wisdom. She has gone for a ‘one man band’ highly recommended by a friend - hopefully fine for a minor service on her diesel A2 when as far as she can tell, all is going well. My FSI will be off to WOM in the spring even though it’s 100miles away!
