Apparent injector wiring loom fault...?

The codes did interpret injector problem.
I have called an Auto electrician and he says that repairing the cable is not possible, I suspect this is due to the resistance a repair connection would cause.
Im just praying a scrappy comes through with a wiring loom, cant believe a loom from Audi costs as much as £700 +vat! Extortion, they should've built the car with better materials!

My TDI's in for repair now. Had a long chat with the garage today, as they believe it's either the injector module thing (I forget the specific term) or the loom. Cost including labour is £480-ish vs £140-ish for the loom replacement.

The resistance reading measurements for the loom for each cylinder turned up the following information:

Cyl 1 ~20 Ohms
Cyl 2 ~25 Ohms
Cyl 3 ~20 Ohms

Cylinder 2 is the one reporting the error below:
18075 - Valve for Pump-Jet: Cylinder 2 (N241): Electrical Malfunction
P1667 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Given the recent experiences of everyone on here, and that the resistance reading for Cyl 2 is higher (although not shockingly so), I've opted to get the loom replaced.

Hopefully this will resolve the issue

@ Bazza -what were the codes exactly, do you know?
@driveforward, that's the same error code I had for mine which was the loom. Good luck, I'm sure that's the cause.

There's absolutely no reason why a spliced in repair cannot be done to the parts in question. If a wire is soldered in with care, there will be no increase in resistance within the circuit. It's just a case of how far back you need to cut into the loom to ensure you get everything covered.

Mike

Mike, If i were to replace the damaged bits of cable, about 5 bits, do you or anyone else know where I could get the pins for the connectors? Audi were pretty reluctant to give me even the part number for their loom!

There are 2 variations on the connector type, depending on model year. If your VIN has a 1 before the N, then you need 4 of 037 973 202 at around £2.90 each. If you have a 2 before the N, then you need 4 of 06A 973 722 at a shade over £5 each.

The pins for these connectors are as follows: 000 979 133 (1mm section wire) or 000 979 225 (2.5mm section wire). For the 06A connectors, you'll need 000 979 153 (1mm section wires).

With these wire numbers, what you get is a length of the specified section wire, about 300mm long and a pin of the correct type for the connector at each end. So, 1 wire will give you 2 pins, enough for one connector.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Antony
Mike has a very good point. The ABS and traction lights could be caused by several things. The rough idle in cold weather is normal as the injection timing changes to compensate for the cold, increasing the diesel clatter until the engine gets hot.
If the lights stay on, consider getting a diagnostic scan done.

Cheers Spike

And also quote Skipton01:

Thanks, I've began looking into diagnostics! The lights sometimes appear at start-up and go away when I re-start, it's not really causing any problems at present so I'll take my time and find the fault. ABS and traction control definatly work when the lights are not on, so I guess thats a good sign! I'll update when I get it sorted.

Cheers fellas.

Thanks Mike, your a legend.

I replaced the damaged part of the wires with high temp 1mm. Spliced, soldered then used adhesive heat shrink. Im gonna go see the Mech monday to reset the engine light and see how the week goes.
All seems well, i actually think its idling better than before.
As a precaution when a scrappy does come up with a loom ill invest in it as i dont think they'll be very common.

Cheers,
Baz

Bazza, no worries, glad you got it sorted in the end.

Good idea on getting a loom in the future - I think there's a lot of us now who are thinking of stockpiling certain parts.

Cheers,

Mike

Well after Spike kindly scanned my car, the faults had all but disappeared... until this morning. I changed the air filter, which was filthy, and after about 1 mile of driving the ABS, TC and (!) lights came on with the siren. After a couple of re-starts, all was fine, but then while driving the TC light started flashing repeatedly and there was a loss of power... the brakes remain strong though.

I'm going to order my VAGCOM lead now, I really hope this is only the wiring loom. I'll keep this updated, although it seem the problem is already well documented!

I've started have the same problem today! thankfully :) i will start by replacing the injector loom first.

@Andy - sorry to hear of the misfire, but good luck with the loom replacement, it's quite a straightforward job really.

@Swalsey- did yours get fixed with a loom replacement?

just to update everyone. i successfully changed my injector loom also my fuel filter housing and my A2 is now working spot on.
