I'm looking to buy some Pepperpots. Are all Audi 15" forged or were the A2 pepperpots special?
Forged? Fake news!I'm looking to buy some Pepperpots. Are all Audi 15" forged or were the A2 pepperpots special?
I'm pretty sure pepperpots are forged. This is one of the mysteries why Audi used such a basic design but specced them so high....
Best guess is that although the initial tooling cost is high, overall the cost of manufacture is cheaper for high volume parts - which probably applies to the A2s 15" alloys and the pepperpots used on A3s (and other models)
I've got some highly polished Pepperpots fitted. The complete wheel is polished and the finish is absolutely superb! You still notice the internal polished surfaces through the Pepperpot holes! Another characteristic of these wheels is their obvious lightness .... I am not sure as to how that is of benefit, though? As for characteristics of forged alloys, the things I noticed are the very smooth finish and lack of cast 'pockets' on the back of the spokes
If that were true, Audi's standard wheel designs would all be forged, rather than cast, but of course it's quite the reverse. I have a set of A3 Pepperpots, and I struggle to see any evidence whatever that they might be forged. Rather, they have all the characteristics of cast wheels, as do those A2 15" seven-spoke wheels.
Hi all.
I just went outside and took a photo of one of my Pepperpots I recently was given for free, sorry for the bad appearance they are meant as winter wheels.
"Geschmiedet" is german for forged I believe.
